Question RE: 2022 MLB Playoffs (Postseason) Thread

Well, I certainly called that loss. Wish it wasn't, but: Day game-check, rust from layoff-check, newly confident opponent-check, taking what the pitcher gives you instead of swinging for the fences,-double check (with two outs)....Fried didn't pitch badly, but this was a slap-hitting, scrappy Phillies team we didn't really see in the regular season. hats off to their manager and their preparation: they planned and executed near-perfectly. Braves almost made a game of it. Well, they will have to see about pitching better in Game 2. Phils are playing with house money, so they will be more relaxed. Short series, it can get tough. Plus, rain in forecast might screw things up for both teams. We'll see.

Sorry that mariners blew such a great opportunity. That Home Run in B9 was unconsciously great, though. Gives fans something to remember.

I think given it's Wheeler tonight for the Phils- it's close to a must win.

Did see with Fried that was the lowest avg velo from him all year long. Makes you wonder if he's over that bug he had that last weekend of the season.

Goin to Dodger Stadium for tonight's game. Kershaw vs Darvish - should be fun. Or nerve wracking. Probably both.

huge start for Wright tonight to get the 3-0 win. Jansen closes it out with some serious filth.

Hopefully Acuna is ok after that HBP.

yeah, we ain't done yet:

Quote:Atlanta Braves starter Kyle Wright has a piece of advice for struggling pitchers:

"I think that you're just never as far (away) as you think you are," Wright said before taking the mound for Game 2 of the NL Division Series against the Philadelphia Phillies on Wednesday night. "When I was struggling (and) I got to as low as I did, I felt like where I'm at now was forever away. And really it wasn't."

"He's the epitome (of) it's not necessarily becoming something you aren't. It's always getting back to who you truly are." Atlanta Braves shortstop Dansby Swanson on Atlanta Braves starter Kyle Wright.

Both Braves and Dogs' series tied 1-1. Well, it's the postseason and like I've said before: both teams want to win. Very exciting baseball games to watch. Let's see if Seattle can steal one back tonight.

So of course Josh Hader did something last night for the Padres. Got a 4 out save.

The last Padre pitcher to do that..... obviously Goose Gossage.

Results notwithstanding, playoff baseball in person is a blast. Decent number of Padres fans, quite noisy, was actually fun. The games in SD will likely have a higher % of Dodgers fans than they brought up here - that's typical.

Was tough to watch Dodgers mistakes and missed opportunities though. Hitting Darvish pretty well should have led to more runs but 10 LOB and 0-8 with RISP is never gonna get it done.

Interesting to see Gonsolin selected as Game 3 starter. Hard to imagine he'll go more than 4 but the pen will be in good shape.

Re: The goose, I felt kinda bad. Geese don't lie on the ground like that, so my assumption is that it was either tired or hurt. Between innings the grounds crew came out and, in their first attempt to corral it, the goose flew to the area behind home plate. Crowd got really into it. Finally they threw a towel over it and put it in a big trash can and carried it off the field to a chorus of boos.

I hope this doesn't become LA's Curse of the Goose.

You know if they had come back to win, the rally goose would totally be a thing.

Roberts says he's built up to 75 pitches. So...4 sounds about right unless he's REALLY efficient.

It's weird, I would have thought they'd do it game 4, where to have Urias ready for game 5 where he could be counted on to go deeper. Guess it's a gamble either way they went for sure.

One of the Dodgers radio guys was guessing that Game 3 is the right time for Gonsolin because if it goes south, Game 4 will need a guy you know can give you at least 6 quality innings: Tyler Anderson. (Trust me, it feels just as weird writing that as it must to you reading it.)

It is a Greater White-fronted Goose - they breed in the high arctic, winter mostly in Mexico (in the east in Florida). A big push of them came through yesterday Wednesday.

Most likely this was a juvenile that got behind the flock, was tired, got disoriented by the lights but saw grass and landed.
