The university has been stagnate for fifty years. If it doesn't grow, why do you expect the fan base to grow?
This is one of the big mysteries to me.
The city of Memphis itself has hurt the university. We don’t get the outside of Shelby county students that we used to. All the Nashville area students that don’t get into UT now go to MTSU
I remember some twitters from Dr Rudd that mapped out enrollment by state/area. They showed our footprint (outside Shelby County) has grown leaps and bounds. Whether we’re actually losing students in our traditional core areas, it didn’t say (that I recall).
I seriously question that. I like Dr Rudd he did a lot of great things, but I call BS on that. But I doubt there’s anything he could do anyway

Found one of them. I suppose the stats/map are open to interpretation.

The Jackson-Lambuth expansion might have something to do with it. I can believe it.

The Friday night games, however, present me with a real dilemma. I’m also a Covington high football fan and have only missed a handful of their games since 1982.
I debated which game to see this week. Luckily Covington plays at Bolivar and will be favored by 30 to 40 points. The Tiger game wins this time.
The Highland Hundred meets the night before the Tigers play ( usually Friday). I’ve told the president that a meeting will never trump a real game, so I skip his meeting to go to high school football most every time.
Ya gotta set your priorities.
(My old name on here was Covingtontiger until it somehow got disabled.)
I am sure that happens with Bama, UT, Ark and other schools with obvious schedule conflicts, the difference is if they give people tickets they can't use, those guys will show up. I have given away tickets for years and they don't use them, like something came up at the last minute.
We have fans outside the usual 25K that have to have everything in the universe line up just right to show up. Opponent, Weather, other events, kids, etc.

Forgot about that. I would like to see some real data on students that come from east of the Tennessee River. I know a bunch of people my age that are from Nashville, came here for school and never left. I doubt that’s the case anymore.
Here’s a thought since we have a campus in Jackson, maybe we should build an OCS there. Lol

Lambuth
In January 2008, Lambuth University, a member of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA), named Freeze its head coach.[18] In 2008, he led Lambuth to an 8–4 record and a first round loss in the NAIA playoffs, marking their first appearance in the playoffs since 2004 under then head coach Vic Wallace. He was considered for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga's head coaching position following the 2008 season, but remained at Lambuth University for another season and compiled a 20–5 overall record, and defeating opponents 41–17 on average. In 2009, he led the Eagles to their best regular season record in school history with an unblemished 11–0 mark. Lambuth advanced to the second round of the NAIA playoffs for first time in 11 years—having won one game before suffering elimination to finish 12–1 as the sixth-ranked team in the NAIA.[10]
for several years they played the NAIA national championship
