RE: **** Week 5: WKU vs. Troy, 6:00PM CT, Saturday, Oct 1, ESPN+ ****
MUCH respect for WKU and their offense. They were as good as advertised. Troy has a special defense this year and were able to slow the hilltopper offense down just enough to win.
In a bit of a storybook moment, Jarret Doege took the reigns when needed and won the game for the Trojans.
Just wanted to say that walls of stats don't win football games and this is why play the games! Good luck the rest of the way hilltoppers.

Are you sure these are CUSA refs? Since Troy is the visiting team the refs should be from the SBC.
.
Honestly do refs have an allegiance to a certain team just because they are assigned to a certain conference?
His comment about the refs wasn't related to allegiance, he said these CUSA refs are atrocious and I am pretty sure those refs were from the SBC.

I had seen a Southern Miss poster talk about the crew being a CUSA crew so I looked it up. The refs in this game are listed below, and are CUSA refs.
Referee: Ed Ardito
Line Judge: Jim Pidcoe
Side Judge: Dustin Drawhorn
Umpire: DJ Johnson
Back Judge: Sean Woodson
Linesman: Bob Pritchett
Field Judge: Lark Jones

I'm sure there were some calls that WKU should have gotten too, but I can't remember too many games where even the homer announcers were in awe of how much we were getting hosed. In the end it doesn't matter, We got the "W" and I'm proud of our team. WKU is a good football team and should be in the hunt for a CUSA title. I don't see many other defenses slowing down that machine of an offense.

Austin Reed is a good QB. I really like his throwing ability and his progressions.
You could tell he wasn't comfortable tonight though. Troy's D was bringing it. He got very upset on the sidelines at one point... wasn't sure who he was mad at.
It was fun playing you again, WKU. Looking forward to seeing you in the Walls of Troy next.

The series contract determines which league provides officials to which games, in this case the two schools agreed to let the home team's league provide officials. CUSA had this game and the SBC will have the return trip.
Usually its the opposite, but I've seen more and more of the home team providing refs this year nationwide. My best guess is its to help save travel costs.

That's how Message Boards work. Every ref on the planet has it in for "our" team. No one ever loses fairly.

Watch some of the game, evenly matched Out of 10 games, It would probably be 5 and 5. I saw missed opportunities by WKU.
Troy pretty much beat App State at Home also and is probably the best team in the Sunbelt (not saying much) minus maybe South Alabama. Not sold on JMU they will lose a few

I can't take anyone serious when they have players doing this on hype videos.

Good game Troy. Your speed really disrupted our rhythm on offense and our coach is too stubborn to try and adjust, where yours seemed to make changes needed to win. Might try to make the trip down next year, been a minute since I have been down that way. Best of luck the rest of the season.

The 4th down play in this game where WKU's OT reached out and snared a deflected pass, showed athleticism, and followed a blocker for a 12 yard gain and a first down was one of the crazier plays that I've seen this season. That OT looked like an athletic TE on that play. I was super impressed by his awareness and abilities on that play. WKU should consider using him as an eligible receiver in some sets.

Or just slim him down a tad and make him a solid TE IF they have an OT to fill in right behind him and if there is a need at TE.

We are solid at TE, but Helton seems to forget they (or the middle of the field) exist this season. I do agree that he showed some nice athleticism on the play though.
