RE: AP Poll
Not surprising. But you have literally any P5 team 2-0 with a win over a "top" 10 team and I bet the farm they are ranked.

RE: AP Poll
I mean, I don’t know how quickly y’all saw teams in CUSA get ranked, but this is nothing new for the Sun Belt, to “wait” for drop offs leaving the Top 25.

Hopefully it’ll change, with ESPN backing their new toy. But it’s where we are right now.

RE: AP Poll
Looking at who is in front of both App and Marshall, there should be a lot of cannibalization occurring in the next month and a half, so if both teams can stay consistent and keep winning, maybe they'll both be ranked by the time their head-to-head comes up.

I admit I was a bit shocked Marshall didn't make it in the low 20's. App I can understand with the loss to UNC.

Marshall had an amazing team in 2014, and we smashed our opponents on a weekly basis, and it took us 10 weeks to crack the top 25...

Marshall beat Louisville in 2011. Marshall had no P5 opponents in 2014.

Correct. Louisville was scheduled for 2014 but asked us to move it to 2016 to accommodate their move to the ACC. Of course 2016 was our worst year under doc and they beat us soundly

JMU fan, you don't understand. We had a p5 game, a home game no less on our schedule that was moved. The team was criticized so much that year that we had no p5 matchups but people forget we had one scheduled and they backed out on us.

(09-11-2022 04:53 PM)Bleed Green Wrote:  I am just as frustrated about where the SBC are in the polls and double-speak as anyone. First, teams can’t break into the top 25 because of preseason polls dictate the pecking order and someone has to lose to for others to move up. Then the reasoning today is the preseason polls were wrong and the wins weren’t as great because those that got beat shouldn’t have been ranked so high to begin with. Ok, but how does that explain TA&M being higher than the team that just beat them at home?

So, our work is cut out for the conference……our players have to do their jobs well every play of every game and fans are going to have to get out and support by attending and watching. One great weekend could be dismissed as a fluke but consistent solid play week in and week out will earn respect. We are still ranked higher than other G5s and are hosting College Gameday next week. So we are not being dismissed as a fluke but we are collectively competing for respect nationally. The AAC may claim P6 but we are going to earn the title.

Just win baby. All else will take care of itself.

If there is one thing elitist hate such as these know it all talking heads is when you make then look stupid and wrong. Even those with ESPN which has invested interest in the Sun Belt are sometime idiots.

Miami Herald with the blunt headline.

AP Top 25 Reality Check: Sun Belt gets slighted in rankings

I think the Coaches Poll is far worse than the media poll though. 35 votes to Notre Dame and 40 to Marshall defies logic.

As for Texas A&M, they are not a better than half the unranked receiving votes. UNC has a legitimate Heisman candidate at quarterback. Texas Tech just beat a ranked opponent. FSU beat an SEC school. What exactly do non-SEC teams need to do to earn respect in these polls?

I always said I think it will take a week or two for us to crack the poll

What's worse ND 0 - 2 is just a few votes behind Marshall.

Game wasn’t as close as it looked either. ND was outclassed in almost every way. If we’d had one decent punt the whole game it would have shown

It helps having a 5-Star RB to fill in. Talk about having pocket aces with those two...

They will always keep SEC rankings high so when they play each other it boosts their SOS and gives them "quality" wins. A joke that ND drops out and Aggie doesn't. ND lost twice but hung with OSU on the road. Aggie smoked SHSU ooooo scary.

Good to see Soft Houston living up to their name. Relabeling them FBS in a year won't likely change much.

They actually didn't blow out Soft Houston nearly how I would've expected. 31-0 final, 17-0 at half.

The table is set boys!

With the A&M, ND, and Nebraska wins - IF you can have a SBC champion undefeated (or 1 loss in App State's case) we have a good shot at the NY6 spot this year.

UNC already got it....so you can't have it. 03-wink

We would need to be 11 and 1 to get the NY6 probably.

By the way....JMU is going to be a tough W to get for sure. LESS THAN 2 WEEKS :)

Well Riley, I think we are the only team that has won two separate conference divisions and two separate conference championships - IN THE SAME YEAR!

2014 Marshall Schedule:

vs. Miami (OH) - W 42-27
vs. Ohio - W 42-14
@ Akron - W 48-17

Marshall Wins the MAC East (OOC)

Marshall goes 7-1 (FKN Doughty...lol) and Wins CUSA East

Marshall wins CUSA defeating LaTech 26-23 in the CUSA CCG

Marshall wins the MAC defeating 11-1 NIU 52-23

LOL!!!!!!
