Ramifications of ODU's first SBC Win
OK. The VT game thread contains all the valuable insights and experiences of that wonderful game.

This thread is to discuss any ramifications of the win on the Program.

For Example.
*The CFB-starved country had exclusive access to ODU v VT. A classic underdog matchup of G5 v P5. It was not unlike when ODU played Nova in OT where thee rest of the NCAA games had finished, so all the CBS affiliates showed the ODU game thru the other OTs. The country's eyes were focused on ODU!

* Nice showcase of ODU's new stadium. Though the elevator thing was embarrassing and humorous. What an ultimate "home job"!

* How about ODU's "Big Boy" Defense?! We forced a lot of 3-and-outs and were stiff throughout the game. The VT touchdown happening after that fluky deep ball.

* Coach Rahne's first P6 win EVER. Yes, the P6 schools will likely place RR on their radar, and he'll progress away from ODU like the VCU model, BUT... our Program will keep reloading with top assistants/coordinators. And let's be honest, having success in FBS CFB may be more lucrative than in A10 MBB.

* VT agreed to the 10 year contract with ODU bc they thought they'd waltz in and steal interest and recruits from the fertile 757. Oooops! This may be a blunder on the order of Putin thinking he could waltz into Kiev. Time will tell.

* "Welcome to the party pal!" using a line from Bruce Willis in Die Hard. What a way to impress our new host conference, SBC, and all the teams there that welcomed ODU to join. We showed out today and made the entire SBC look, even more, LEGIT! Yes, SBC, we fought together as a conference today... but watch y'alls back when we're on the grid iron with ya!

There's way too many to name, so add your thoughts!

This was a YUGE program win tonight. We're 2-2 with VT and each winning in their home town. Too bad we do not have an even home-away series with them over the next 10 years. They may pull a Seth G in six more years!

RE: Ramifications of ODU's first SBC Win
I am reminded of some wisdom from the late, great Martin Crane: “I know I always told you boys that sports aren't important... but they are.”

Every win puts us on the map that much more.

There is a chance that we win against every school in the commonwealth this year. A small chance, but larger today than yesterday.

We have some really phenomenal fans by the way. I was in stitches every time they cut to ODU fans acting hilarious in the stands. And I noticed the ODU counter chants drowning out the VT. I love the vibes. How about that impromptu dance party on the field after the game?

It’s awesome to see the fans have something to cheer for. It’s fantastic we get to play games against VT, UVA, ECU and also exciting that we might actually win.

Hopefully we see great turnout for Liberty and of course JMU.

RE: Ramifications of ODU's first SBC Win
“The game was the place to see and be seen. Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin, a Norfolk native; and Attorney General Jason Miyares, who is from Virginia Beach, both attended. It was ODU's first game as a member of the Sun Belt Conference and Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill participated in pregame activities.

Washington Commanders quarterback Taylor Heinicke, the best player in ODU history, was on the ODU sideline, as was former Tech All-American and NFL star Bruce Smith. Blake LaRussa, the former walk-on quarterback who engineered ODU's 2018 victory, was there, along with a number of his former teammates.“

How many more games before they cancel the series?

If you read their 247sports board, some of theirs want it cancelled immediately because of the alleged visitor's locker room burglary. Others are appalled that they are playing an away game against a G5 at all.

If they find a way to cancel, let 'em. Then turn around and sign a H-H agreement with a P5 who might be interested in stealing some Tidewater recruiting "share of mind" out from under them.

Is this locker room burglary thing real? It seems a little Oceans 11.

They would be foolish to cancel the series. It’s such a great series for the commonwealth and 757 community - and makes sense on so many levels. And the good thing is that we are no longer a “stunning loss” when we beat a P5. The SBC definitely elevates our football status, and it will only continue to grow if we do our part and win.

Did VCU's MBB team visit the Visitor's Locker during the 4th quarter?!

I watched quite a bit of football yesterday and every game seemed to mention ODU beating Tech. It was great publicity for the program.

I think it's seen that way by the people that matter as well. The Walmart VT fans don't hold any sway over it.

I can’t see RR’s good friend doing that to him either. And surely he’d have major input. Just saying, not even being able to keep the locker rooms safe gives them some cover if they want it. We need to do better. ODU is on a bigger stage. We need to start acting like it.

RE: Ramifications of ODU's first SBC Win
Here is an anecdote of how these kind of wins are referenced in the community.

I was in church this morning, and there is always about a two minute video before the message. It's usually a short segment from a movie, etc. to create a relatedness to the topic. Today's topic was "Battle Ready." There was a short clip from "Heartbreak Ridge", then there was a clip of a football team taking the field to "Enter Sandman". The pastor began by saying, "for those fans of a team who enters the stadium to that music, you know your team wasn't battle ready this weekend. Then he threw in a "Go Monarchs."

I was the lone applauder.

03-shhhh

We need to let the rest of the conference continue to 03-zzz on us. We are just a 1-0 team, with a chance to go 1-0 next week.

Go Monarchs!
