Thanks. I'm happy, but sad for my second favorite team.

You think your coach is on the hot seat yet?

I’d doubt it. A lot harder to be consistent with the limited pool of recruits.

If it was up to me he would be on the hot seat. We have not looked good (as in well coached) in 4 or 5 years. Even the 2019 season was not smooth, we just had enough of an athlete at QB to make up for it.

I am not saying he needs to go - yet, but he needs to be willing to shake up something and I would move on if he is not willing.

If we lose games, we lose games, it is a tough place to build a team. We should however do what we do well and that is not the case lately.

I think he IS on the hot seat, as of today.
Maybe a CiC trophy would cool that off - heck, we could have a great turnaround. But today? Yeah.

I would have scoffed at that 9 days ago or so.
Not only do you give a loooot of leeway to your program's all time winningest coach, especially when he is a man of the character and commitment to the institution that Coach Niumat has.

I was guilty of buying in to the coach speak (again). Momentum from the end of last year. Especially beating the Woops. Especially Tai's late-year progress. We finally did everything from A to Z in the offseason to be ready.
And then to look like this?

All this is not even to say I would be pulling the trigger myself - just that the seat is hot. The halo effect is expired.
My big question is "what next?" If you're going to do something like fire a senior leader, you'd better have an idea of what to do next. (That was one of the top three things so wrong about the debacle Chet pulled with Ivin last year - what the heck was your next step in that scenario?)
I have no idea what that next direction should be.

We'll see, I guess.
Bye week provides some time to figure ish out.
Heck, trips to Greeneville have always been good for Navy offenses.

But yeah that seat is hot.

The tricky part to me is obtaining reasonable assurance the replacement will outperform the present coach.

I agree with everything you said but there is another thing that is important too. Standards are important, and they are always set top down. You get what you accept and coach Ken is accepting what we are (and what we have been for the last 3 Yeats +) until and unless he forces a change.

What change should be forced? Since it is on the offensive side we have the problem, that would suggest Jasper or something else down that line. If he not willing to do so that suggests it would be him instead.

Yes, things may get worse and plan B needs to be table topped out a lot, but Ken needs to understand that the current situation in untenable; improve, hold people accountable or go.

Traveling to Annapolis vs Navy who just lost to an FCS school will feel like a breath of fresh air after what our boys just went trough.

Prediction - Tigers get their biggest win vs Navy in our short 7 year span of playing.

I suppose Navy has a good pipeline from Jr. Military colleges but I guess the portal is somewhat useless to them? I was just wondering how this is impacting them while everyone else is using it to fill immediate needs each year. I know ECU has 3 kids starting from other places this year due to the portal. Do you have any insight on this?

The only "pipeline" Navy has is from the Naval Academy Preparatory School in Rhode Island, which primarily exists to plus up prospective candidates who are not quite academically prepared. Some football players go through there, but that is not the primary purpose of the place. Of course, we have to re-recruit players after they finish because they are not obligated to come. I suppose there are some other junior colleges we have gotten players from, but it is rare and I have not heard of any in particular.

All of them have to start out as Plebes and go through Plebe summer training and so forth, which is not pleasant/fun and they tend to lose weight and not really set to play football afterwards. So there is not quick fix.

We do lose players to transfer all the time. The one advantage we have is that after the start of 2nd class year (junior) they are obligated to Navy service and cannot quit/transfer without having to do a time as an enlisted sailor. The flip side is that none of the players are technically on football scholarship and can quit the team and keep going to school for free, which happens a surprising percentage of time.

It is what it is.

Thanks for the clarification. Then the portal really does now put the Academies in somewhat of a disadvantage since their opponents can shore up holes in their rosters and they are pretty much stuck with with what they have. All the academies do a pretty good job of field good teams regardless. I guess the discipline and constant physical conditioning helps a lot. No other teams can compete in that realm.

Navy is in an off year. Schools that have players that can read and do math experience this sort of thing.
