During the one summer I spent in DeKalb, I unfortunately attended a few keggers of warm beer on hot humid nights. They didn't want to spend 30 bucks for ice because it will eat into their $700.00 profit they made selling $2.00 cups.
Quite honestly, I don't know is worse, cold beer on a frigid day or warm beer on a hot night. I don't know how the English can do it.
$2 cups?! What year was this? It was $5 from 2006-2009. Then they went full speed on banning anyone who even thought of kegs. The penalty was so high from senior year on.
Ha! When I was at NIU, I used to spend 25 cents for a glass of beer in the bars downtown.
I think it was around $5 at the bars when I went. I remember thinking $50 was such a large tab.

$3 a cup late 80s-early 90s.
When I got to NIU I didn’t like beer. Would drink the schnapps, MD 20/20,Night Train. You learn to like beer real fast at parties. 10s of thousands of beers later , never looked back.

I’m with you DF. That was my budget. Every once in a while I would splurge and have a 40 cent cocktail.

When I got to DeKalb, I did not like beer. But, after awhile, I acquired the taste for it. When my friends and I went to the bar, I would have a hard drink for every one of the 8 beers they drank. And, I had to drive them back to the dorm. Fun times!

I am sure that they had to make a mandatory stop at the Grotto before being driven home?

I attended NIU in the late eighties and several places had cheap beer. The stadium club had $1.00 pint taps on special. Lord Stanley's had $3.00 pitcher nights. There were quarter beer specials sometimes. different times different prices!

Mid-Eighties. .I think by the time I graduated, you started seeing $3.00/cup.
I do remember in 1986 that the Bottle Star would charge $19.95/keg for Red, White and Blue. I think Miller was going for $25.00/Keg. But it was heresy to go to a better beer and spend and extra $5.05 cents.

Andy's would have 25 cent beers on Thursday night, but I think they would give you a 6oz cup. .Either way, still a cheap night.
I remember The Jungle would give you 5 shot mixed drinks for $2.50.The bartender showed me the Vodka they used which was an obscure name that I never heard of, but the kicker was that it was 40 proof.

Mcabes in the mid seventies was about $.50 a beer. if we really wanted to get hammererd, we'd splurge at the Uprising with $.75 malt liquer.

40 proof is 20% abv.
I'm not even sure you could legally sell that as a spirt at the level.

You are probably right. Until the bartender at the Jungle showed me the bottle, I couldn't figure out why I could pound mixed drinks at the Jungle but when I go the AMEX, I would be puking on half of the amount. I always thought AMEX was using crappy vodka.

The Jungle was so cheap. It was still there in the early 2000s. $5 margarita fish bowls. They would make you pay a $5 cover charge for pizza and put a bunch of them out in the basement counter. It must have been their way to sell a certain amount of food based on the type of liquor license they had.

What year was this? It was $5 from 2006-2009. Then they went full speed on banning anyone who even thought of kegs. The penalty was so high from senior year on.
Ha! When I was at NIU, I used to spend 25 cents for a glass of beer in the bars downtown.
Some of them probably used "Huskie Vodka" with the Huskie on it from Bottle Store. Owner told me story once, I forgot.
Otto's had the "OttoBrau." $2.50 32 oz cup whatever they had to get rid of. Was always a surprise as to what you got!
AMEX had 3 shots of Sambuca for $2 during week. We took my roommate there for his 21st. 2 of us ordered 6 at a time 2x. We drank 1.5 each and gave him a triple 2x w/o him knowing. He was done. Not a drinker, carried him out.
