Sorry guys. We'll pull our weight in basketball, baseball, and women's sports. You're on your own for football...

Soon as I heard Hatcher was the starter put money on Nevada. Didn't think Bobcats had the sort of receivers who made Hatcher look good at AState, heck we didn't have the sort of receivers who made Hatcher look good at AState last year.

RE: GAME THREAD - Texas State at Nevada - Saturday, 9/3 4:30 CST - Nevada Sports Net
I technically had this game as a loss all summer. It wasn't until the NMSU game that gave me hope. The wolfpack looked horrible against the aggies. This gave me the notion that surely Nevada would faire worse against a better team like us (TXST). Nope, turns out that we're basically on the same level as New Mexico State. Its going to be a long season.

Also about a week ago, Coach Spavital mentioned that Hatcher was the hardest working QB that he's ever been around and I fell for it. I expected a qb that would carve the Nevada defense like a Thanksgiving turkey, instead we got someone trying to cut a steak with a butter knife. I expected a calm and cool QB throwing perfect passes that only our WR could catch. Nope. instead we got two interceptions, four sacks and multiple over-thrown balls. I now have a feeling that that, at the bobcat football complex, there's a long forgotten broom closet with a couch, a big screen tv and a video game console. Its the only explanation I have on how you spend 12+ hours every day at the stadium all summer practicing and studying film and get this type of results.

As we move forward (or in our case continue to stagnate like a certain Georgia creek). . . . please, don’t bother with any “new” TXST Gameday Threads.

Just use this one, and substitute the opponent name in the title thread. Will save everyone time and effort . . .

The bolded part is true. Kid works his butt off.

But on a third down scramble, he often isn't field aware enough or willing to take the hit needed to get the first down and will step out of bounds short of the marker.
He takes too long to make the decision to get out of the pocket when it is collapsing, something special seeing a 7 yard loss on a sack become 15 when trying to throw it away gets spun around and ends up lateraling the ball out of bounds even further from the line of scrimmage.
Not very clock aware in critical situations.

We didn't offer him a scholarship out of high school. Bama let him walk on whether that was because Bama approached him thinking it would help them get a stud from his high school they wanted or because he approached them and implied that is unknown

The result was when he walked on at AState after a year as a walk-on at Alabama and then got to play against a pfft Troy secondary with a couple receivers who got some NFL training camp and IR time massive numbers were posted and it was all Alabama transfer tearing it up in the Sun Belt. Reality was those receivers were coming back for balls and veering off route to make catches and he was heaving at guys in double when there were open receivers underneath.

I promise you he puts in more work than most any starter you've had in your program history and probably knows the playbook better than your OC. I just think he'd been better served to enjoy success as a wrestler at UALR than a QB at AState or Texas State.

That's what we said about him as well. He works very hard, thing is, he's just not that talented of a QB.

Only reason the kid got into another FBS school was because he got blessed by extremely talented receivers in first year or so here, and our idiot coach foolishly tried a 2 QB system in 2020. Once our star receivers graduated, Hatcher struggled.

We had it worse, kid is from Arkansas, and comes from a family that has a lot of money. There were people who insinuated it was our civic duty to give him the starting QB job because he was a good kid from a good family. Spavital doesn't have that pressure.

Let's be honest. He was the second best QB in the room at AState weighing talent, team confidence, and knowledge of the system.

That was never his fault. Blake didn't have a better QB as backup. Last year Butch didn't have a better back up.

Blake has been using two QB at USU so I don't know that fan pressure and daydreams of local stardom were as big of a factor as we had thought.

I do remember stAte WRs from a 2-3 years ago. Very impressive bunch I have to admit.
