I sat in a movie theater watching "Schindler's List," asked myself, "Why didn't the Jews fight back?"

Now I know why.

I sat in a movie theater, watching "Pearl Harbor" and asked myself, "Why weren't we prepared?"

Now I know why.

Civilized people cannot fathom, much less predict, the actions of evil people.

On September 11, dozens of capable airplane passengers allowed themselves to be overpowered by a handful of poorly armed terrorists because they did not comprehend the depth of hatred that motivated their captors.

On September 11, thousands of innocent people were murdered because too many Americans naively reject the reality that some nations are dedicated to the dominance of others. Many political pundits, pacifists and media personnel want us to forget the carnage. They say we must focus on the bravery of the rescuers and ignore the cowardice of the killers. They implore us to understand the motivation of the perpetrators. Major television stations have announced they will assist the healing process by not replaying devastating footage of the planes crashing into the Twin Towers.

I will not be manipulated.

I will not pretend to understand.

I will not forget.

I will not forget the liberal media who abused freedom of the press to kick our country when it was vulnerable and hurting.

I will not forget that CBS anchor Dan Rather preceded President Bush's address to the nation with the snide remark, "No matter how you feel about him, he is still our president."

I will not forget that ABC TV anchor Peter Jennings questioned President Bush's motives for not returning immediately to Washington, DC and commented, "We're all pretty skeptical and cynical about Washington."

And I will not forget that ABC's Mark Halperin warned if reporters weren't informed of every little detail of this war, they aren't "likely -- nor should they be expected -- to show deference."

I will not isolate myself from my fellow Americans by pretending an attack on the USS Cole in Yemen was not an attack on the United States of America.

I will not forget the Clinton administration equipped Islamic terrorists and their supporters with the world's most sophisticated telecommunications equipment and encryption technology, thereby compromising America's ability to trace terrorist radio, cell phone, land lines, faxes and modem communications.

I will not be appeased with pointless, quick retaliatory strikes like those perfected by the previous administration.

I will not be comforted by "feel-good, do nothing" regulations like the silly "Have your bags been under your control?" question at the airport.

I will not be influenced by so called,"antiwar demonstrators" who exploit the right of expression to chant anti-American obscenities.

I will not forget the moral victory handed the North Vietnamese by American war protesters who reviled and spat upon the returning soldiers, airmen, sailors and Marines.

I will not be softened by the wishful thinking of pacifists who chose reassurance over reality.

I will embrace the wise words of Prime Minister Tony Blair who told Labor Party conference, "They have no moral inhibition on the slaughter of the innocent. If they could have murdered not 7,000 but 70,000, does anyone doubt they would have done so and rejoiced in it?

There is no compromise possible with such people, no meeting of minds, no point of understanding with such terror. Just a choice: defeat it or be defeated by it. And defeat it we must!"

I will force myself to:

-hear the weeping
-feel the helplessness
-imagine the terror
-sense the panic
-smell the burning flesh
- experience the loss
- remember the hatred.

I sat in a movie theater, watching "Private Ryan" and asked myself, "Where did they find the courage?"

Now I know.

We have no choice. Living without liberty is not living.

thanks USMC. It seems to be a much scarier world than it was when I was younger. People my age don't always understand the things that have gone on in the past. Wars and fighting are things out of history books...not anything that we've had to deal with on a daily basis. I just pray every day for our leaders and our soldiers. Regardless of how you feel about either of them or about war in general, you should stand behind your country if it comes to that. And I so admire those who are so bravely willing to defend us.

God Bless America.

You express my sentiments exactly. I served in Vietnam at a time when this nation all but abandoned those of us who were there. This must never happen again.

How correct you are on that one. I don't want to see the public ever abandon our military again.

I've never served in the military, but I for one certainly appreciate those who have and do. Some of my closest friends are in various branches. A good friend of mine from Ole Miss is in the Army at Ft. Campbell and can go overseas at any point.

These uppity movie stars and celebrities who think they know it all and are having these rallies, well, they know NOTHING. We need to support our ladies and gentlemen in uniform, because there will be a war, and we will take care of Sadaam this time, and this quack over in N. Korea. Let's give them our support.

God Bless the U.S.A.

Fortunately we live in a free nation. A nation that was purchased with the blood of men and women willing to fight for it. Europe owes its' very existance to us due to our intervention in WW11. The Japanese woke a sleeping giant.

It seems that the giant is asleep again, at least that part that sings"give peace a chance". Giving peace a chance is fine when you are not being confronted with people that would love nothing more than to see an entire nation of people dead.

Those that are unwilling to fight for the freedoms we now enjoy may one day find themselves captive to those that would enslave them.

Iraq has committed unspeakable horrors against its' own people, where are all the civil rights activist and peace protesters when and where you need them? I can tell you, they would be dead if they started their crap over there.

I appreciate your post USMC! 04-bow

I am sooooo sick of "celebrities" 03-puke 03-puke trying to dictate how this country should be run. Especially the whiners. Half of theme can't pee for themselves and they want to dictate foreign policy. I have lots of "quality" entertainment and I don't have to support any of those jerks.

Makes me have a lot of respect for people like Arnold Scwarzenegger and Bo Derek who don't think the way the majority of celebrities do. They support the President in this effort and in many other of his ideals. Sure, the Republican party may not be perfect, but I'm proud to be a supporter of it. Could be that I don't want to pay 90% of my income to taxes.

And that is as far as I am going into any political discussions on here. I don't come on here to...you know...think. 03-lol 03-lol 03-lol

btw, NPR. The idea of a muslim stamp makes me want to puke! I am so tired of people who are not classified as minority being forced to kiss the rear ends of those who are labeled minority. If you don't, then you are a racist. BULL! Why can't we just treat each other like we want to be treated, and get over this white, black, baptist, muslim GARBAGE that we as a society have been hung up on for so long.

Can you imagine what would happen if we had a "white history month?" We'd all be called racists for celebrating our heritage. Oh wait...we already are as Southerners. It's ridiculous. You've got these idiots with the Black Panthers who are ready to shoot a white guy on sight if given the order. I'd love to tell one of those idiots "to just try it." I'm not the one who will be leaving in the ambulance, I can guarantee you that. It's almost like hammering a nail into one end of the board and the other pops up. We get past these racist views, but now we have to pay for sins of the past that happened before many of us were born. Well, I think NOT.

I'm not hung up at all - if they aren't American and they don't like America...I don't like them. I REALLY don't care if I am politically correct or not, either.
