Colombi Named Starting QB
HUNTINGTON — The quarterback competition at Marshall has ended.
Henry Colombi, a sixth-year transfer from Texas Tech, will start for the Thundering Herd in the season opener against Norfolk State next weekend. Cam Fancher, a redshirt freshman, will be
second on the depth chart.

Marshall head coach Charles Huff said Fancher's improvement in the offseason made the competition close, but the coaching staff was "going with experience." The two entered fall camp as the frontrunners for the starting job and showed different skill sets and flashes of potential throughout the practice sessions, but Colombi's prior experience gave him an advantage that helped him excel, even while learning a new system.

Colombi saw action in seven games as the quarterback for Texas Tech last season, completing 95 of his 148 passes for five touchdowns and five interceptions. In the four seasons where he has seen playing time, two each with the Red Raiders and Utah State, Colombi has thrown for a combined 2,816 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions with a 67% career completion percentage.

Pretty much as expected. I hope he can lead us to a great season.

I hope he comes in and gives the best season we've seen in a MU Quarterback in decades.

I have high hopes. He seems to be a leader which is something we've lacked at QB since Cato was here.

They all need the Chad Pennington crash course on being a winner and not accepting less than that. That really helped Cato settle down from year 2 to year 3 and 4. Hamrick was so abrasive to those alumni players. We lost a lot of resources. I'm glad Huff has at least rebuilt those relationships.

I would kiss Randy's ass and get him around the program some, too. He draws fans and I imagine he could teach our receivers a thing or two. Even if it's just a made up award to get him here for a game. And publicize the heck out of it. 25th anniversary of the '99 team is in two years. The '96 team would have been last year. Get those guys back in the fold. They were good. Real good. Just being around them would do wonders for our current players.
