I have been pulled over a couple time for rolling through a stop sign, and both times I got a warning not to do it again. Of course, Emoni Bates rolls through a stop sign and gets his car searched????? Whether that gun was registered or not or belonged to Emoni or someone else, who cares? That cop was a jerk!

Here is our AD's statement from the article:

Eastern Michigan University Athletic Director Scott Wetherbee didn't confirm the changes against Bates but confirmed "a situation involving one of our student athletes."

"Eastern Michigan takes all allegations very seriously," Wetherbee said in a statement to The Detroit News. "We are working to gather more details and will have further comment when more information is available.”

This reminds me of one of the perils of being an AD. Your phone rings at 2 a.m. and your reaction is, "Oh, s*it, I hope..." Could be a criminal matter, shooting victim, fatal car accident, etc.

It's been an interesting news cycle for EMU the past 72 hours.

Hm in the 1970s I was pulled over night due to hair length and my car searched for drugs because I worked second shift so yes I know it happens. The cops didn't make him run a stop sign.

Dear Friends,
After reading 67 comments in the Detroit News article on Emoni, most thought of him as a loser and a joke. Few were objective about the whole circumstance.
If, he comes out of this innocent of the gun charges, I certainly hope he is eligible to play basketball. Just my opinion, but I think if he plays basketball that will get his head on straight, and something to concentrate on without too many other distractions.

50 year old examples are cool. Running a stop sign is grounds for searching a vehicle? I didn’t see any charges for driving over the influence or stealing a car, so why did they search?
