The Monty Show: ESPN wants two late window games per week from the PAC

Some other quick points:

-Only ESPN interested in Tier 1.

-Fox interested in making big early season games between B1G and SEC schools.

-Schools PAC are interested in are not that interested in joining the PAC.

They seem to heavily support the idea of Utah joining the Big 12.

A "B1G-SEC Challenge" in Week 2 of the College Football season would be a tape-measure grand slam

100% guaranteed

24 games: 12 on ABC and the ESPN family; 12 on FOX, CBS and NBC.

It would give regular-season CFB a major shot in the arm.

Don't know if the masses could handle that many "S-E-C, S-E-C, S-E-C" chants breaking out in one weekend, however

Seems to repeatedly suggest unequal revenue split for the pac10

Shocking if true the pac10 cannot close on a g5.
I get it that sdsu may have a shot at the b12

I don't buy that.... SDSU is gone. Maybe they'd want a short term GoR. Or they want more money than 30-50%.

I don't think they are talking about SDSU. I think they are talking about not being able to poach some Big XII schools.

The guy in the video specifically said sources alluding to SDSU and not being able to work out a deal with the PAC.

Everyone is basically hostage to the B1G and ESPN right now except the 4 corners. If the Big 12 deal was due this year, I think you'd have seen PAC teams already jump.

At this point it's looking like all tier1 PAC is going to be stuck at 9-10pm ET on Friday nights and ESPN+/ESPN2 Saturday nights.

When your argument is San Diego State wouldn’t take $30 million and Utah not Oregon is the crown jewel, you aren’t a credible source.

I don’t understand why people listen to sports radio.

The way he was presenting it seemed kinda unclear. Like he was mixing his opinion in with what he got from his sources. I also assumed he was talking about Big 12 schools. At the same time the way he talks about SDSU could easily be interpreted as coming from his sources though like RU said. And I don't believe SDSU turns that down either if there is an opportunity.

The SDSU part feels like opinion to me that he's presenting as fact. They have some strong anti-PAC bias based on this vid.

And to be fair I went back and listened. He said "one of the absolute prizes" instead of they are the crown jewel, not Oregon.

I think he needs to do a better job of separating his opinion from what he got from his sources.

I had jobs that had me driving a lot. I started when I got tired of hearing the same music over and over.

SDSU could turn down the PAC...if they were in discussions with the big 12. Big 12 might bring in 3/4 of 4 corners + SDSU.

Interesting that those guys are so anti-PAC, they might have more reason than anybody to be interested in both Pac and big 12.

RE: The Monty Show: ESPN wants two late window games per week from the PAC
To me, the sensible ESPN deal is:

GOTW: Friday prime time
Picks #2 & #3: ESPN2 3:30 EST/prime time OR ESPN late night
Picks #4 & #5: ESPN+ 3:30 EST & 7:30 EST (in weeks 1-3 when lots of OOC games are occurring a 3rd late night slot could be added)

This would give the PAC 10 some good coverage. The Friday and late night slots aren’t crowded and the PAC 10 will be the biggest CFB game available.

ESPN wins because they get content in some of their harder to fill windows and most PAC 10 fans will need an ESPN+ subscription in order to see all of their team’s games.

I'm guessing he misspoke. But yeah, it appears their sources are a bunch of Ute homers that are pushing for the Big 12 and not leave things to chance.

I don't know, does Washington/Oregon want to play 25-30% of their games on Friday night? It's still a full work day. Attendance would definitely drop. Saturday late night would be horrible for ratings for tier 1, but playing at 12:30 PT pits them against the meat of college football matches.

This is a BAD spot... and ESPN has no reason to budge. They need to add more teams to fill the late night slots. SDSU and BSU are the best additions (I like UH/Zaga better for a late night Saturday dump and winter programming with Zaga) and force the new teams to take 10-15 million. OSU/WSU probably need to drop to 20 million, and the PAC4/Corner 4 need to get a base of 35 million with some incentive based pay structure for post season qualification and performance.

24 games? You mean 14? Unfortunately not would look bad for Big Ten if they lose 12 of those games.

Purple Utes. The subset that never talks sports outside their church meetinghouse.
