RE: Preseason All Mac Team Hustlebelt
Nichols is without a doubt the best RB in the MAC. CMU lucked oit he didn't go P5 in the offseason like a couple of their other players. Curious how losing two NFL draft picks at both OT positions affects him.

Certainly Nichols has proven he is at the top of the MAC in terms of production and durability. But the dude had 341 rush attempts. That's more attempts than any Huskie has had. Ever. Johnson, Turner, Wolfe, Spann, Lynch, acrb, none of them touched the ball that much. If you put Waylee and Duckers numbers together they're the same as Nichols. That's not really fair to do as Nichols' durability is a great attribute, but Hammock is not giving 1 back 340+ carries. So Nichols will probably end up being the individual leader in rushing, But Brown/Waylee will have better numbers splitting #1 duties. Nichols may find it bit tougher with his 2 NFL caliber tackles now gone and no proven playmaker like Pimpleton to keep the safeties honest.
Personally I think Brown will be the best back in the MAC this season. Last season just scratched the surface of what this kid is capable of.

Without a doubt? I would disagree. He had volume plus a talented line. This year that line takes a step back, let’s see if he is as productive - or if he settles in to mid range.

If he drives like he runs there are going to be a lot of collisions. Good for him, I bet that's an interesting career
I think he just changes tires.

Love yout take on Brown. Great conversation. I'm not sure that Brown is better than Waylee but my vote doesnt count. It appears Brown is the #1 back (at least these past few practices) so he has a chance for more carries. Collectively, NIU will be able to run the ball and will be hard to stop.

I’m just partial to Browns natural size. He dropped a few pounds and is 214. I’m going to guess he’s gained a bit of speed/quickness as well. To me he’s a complete back - speed, power, cuts. It’s like If you combined Ducker and Waylee you’d get Brown.

I agree. Didn't he run a ridiculous 40 last year in testing? Amazing considering his size. I think he tested well in bench, power clean and squat too.

Dug into Nichol’s numbers a little bit. Not going to go as far as calling him a paper tiger bc he’s looked impressive when I’ve watched him, but his schedule sure did help. CMU faced 7 teams who ranked 95th or worse in rush defense. 5 of those were in the bottom 16. He gained 1,300 of his 1800 yards against them. When he faced just average defenses who were ranked between 40-60 his average dropped to 70 yards a game. Last season his OOC schedule was super soft for run D. #124,125,FCS,46. This season he gets #5,#57,FCS,#67

That's a lotta "little bit" right there. Impressive research, Rabid. Nicely done. Between what you unearthed and the losses on CMU's O-line that Chilla pointed out, Nichols might not be all that and a bag of chips after all. (Still glad we play CMU at home, tho!)

By no means do I think he’s not good. I’m just saying he’s not necessarily an 1,800+ yard level back. I hear people predicting a 2,000 yard season. I’m thinking closer to 1,400-1,500. Which is still a great season.
