Infinitely more interesting is the SEC-SEC challenge after the ACC moves in.

You can't take 2 or 4 at once because you then blow up the math to dissolve the ACC and avoid GoR issues. You must take a minimum of 7, and that assumes ND wants out right now with the other 7.

Easy math really. 8 gets the SEC to 24. That seems to be the final number for the P2's.
Clemson, FSU, Miami, UNC, Duke, Virginia and Virginia Tech. That covers the flagships and the biggest football brands and the best basketball brands available. Add Kansas from the Big 12 and there's your 8 to get to 24.

I see UVA and Duke going northward instead for their P2 invite. Both are straight up a better fit there in every metric.

I see this as more of a merger of assets. ACC and SEC are completely ESPN assets. B10 and P12 are at least partially Fox assets. Given the island that USC and UCLA are on right now it would be really foolish of the Big 10 to not double down on western expansion. They NEED a competitive USC. They won't get that if they're left on an island.
Big 10 almost certainly ends up taking Stanford, Cal, Washington and Oregon. That would get them to 20. 3 more AAU flagships are available to bridge the gap to the west coast. The wild card for the Big 10 to get to 24 is Notre Dame.

Do you think ESPN cooperates on that? It depends on what ESPN gets. Duke gives the Mouse some NYC exposure beyond Syracuse. Virginia? It just depends upon what UNC and in this case Duke would want. I think they stay with their buds. ESPN will look to shelter national brands and potential Big 10 targets.
Duke, UNC, Florida State, and Clemson are the brands. Miami, Georgia Tech, and Virginia are the possible targets. Add Kansas to them and there's the 8. Maybe ESPN works a deal to place Nebraska with Oklahoma and works out a release on Virginia. Does UVa want to go it alone? Likely not.
Some interesting possibilities but likely all stay in house only rearranged a bit.

I see the swing block as UVA/Duke/UNC. I think the three could go to the B1G and be peachy happy with each other.

I'm sure they could be happy together but that's not what this is about. It's about what's going to make the Big 10 happiest in the long run. I don't think that involves UNC and Duke. JMHO. The Big 10 needs football strength and markets. They'll get the former with Oregon, Notre Dame and helping out USC with the travel. They get the later w/ the western flagships. The SEC needs basketball. They'll get that with the 3 blue bloods I mentioned.
It's simple. Follow the money. It's far easier for the ESPN to rebrand a few ACC schools as SEC schools. It's a win, win for everybody. The ACC GOR gets torn to shreds. The "brand worthy" ACC schools get a P2 home. The left behinds can pluck from the Big 12 , merge... whatever. I think the B12 ends up mostly owned by ESPN as well.

That is only 7. Kansas won't count need Louisville , GT or NC State to go . Doubt Duke would get the call over State if Football drives the bus
