Observations from Week 1 of UAB Fall Camp
https://uabsports.com/news/2022/8/6/obse...-camp.aspx

Quote:UAB held its sixth practice on Saturday morning and its first in full pads. The Blazers were in helmets for the first two days of camp and shells for the following three until today's full-padded practice.

-The defensive depth has been on full display this week. UAB returns nine starters or co-starters to a unit that finished 16th nationally in total defense, and have added some key transfers who are making an immediate impact. Specifically at linebacker, Reynard Ellis (Georgia Southern), Jackson Bratton (Alabama) and Reise Collier (Coffeyville) have joined Noah Wilder and Tyler Taylor to form one of the strongest linebacking corps UAB has ever had.

-The safeties and corners have also been performing at a high level with multiple players rotating in and out and every position. Along with the names who have extensive playing experience, redshirt sophomore Colby Dempsey at corner has also proven he is a viable option as he competes for more playing time in 2022.

-Running backs DeWayne McBride and Jermaine Brown Jr. are established, but a third option has emerged in Alabama transfer A.J. Gates. Gates has had some tremendous runs throughout the first week of camp and the coaching staff is expecting him to contribute this season in his second year at UAB.

-The Blazers are having fun. Coach Vincent has been ending practices with activates to keep the team engaged, like having linemen catch punts, or Matt Quinn kicking a game-winning field goal with the entire team surrounding and distracting him. The Blazers have championship aspirations but are not losing sight of having fun playing the game as well.

Sounds promising.

The having fun part seems like a good way of for everyone to understand each others position.

More about Dline play? Good looking new players out of juco, but what happened in the trenches when the pads were on?
