It’s NCAA basketball. Even if we go 0-3 it would be 3 quality losses and great experience. It wouldn’t doom the season.

True. And in this B.T.B.T. season (Before The Big Twelve), playing multiple tournament caliber teams pre-conference should help this team build some cohesion and identity prior to taking on the usual parade of AAC schools that don't care about basketball--ECU, Tulane, USF, etc.. As usual, there will be far too many of those in the American farewell tour.

Yeah, with it being a neutral site, these are all basically assured to be Q1 games unless someone falls completely flat on their faces.

Did I say we ARE going to get three L's???

No. I said I HOPE WE DON'T get three L's.

And we'll see how patient and understanding some of y'all are if we do come back with three L's.

Heading yet another year with 1/2 of the roster being new faces I worry that Wes may be getting set up with what we have on the early schedule to have a portion of the fanbase throw their hands up before Christmas. Our OOC performance this year is really important. Can't go oh-fer in Maui. Can't lose at home to X.

RE: 2022 Maui Invitational
I would expect at least one win in Maui - very surprised [and disappointed] if we lay a goose egg. Last year the Cats started off 5-1 with wins over Georgia and Illinois. I realize the Dawgs were hot garbage but that mini-tourney on a neutral floor almost resulted in another win over a ranked Arkansas. I know, different team, different year but Wes had his kids ready to play early on.

Bolded, fans can be fickle, but I hope this isn't the case. Mick's second year record was 13-19 and with an ignominious first game loss in the CBI Tourney. He stayed the course and enjoyed better times in the ensuing years.

RE: 2022 Maui Invitational
Wouldn't be his fault but we are now in year #4 of varying degrees of rebuild and transition with too much bad basketball. In the transfer era the old days of give a guy 4-5 years to get all of his classes filled may be over. At some point fans are going to get impatient. Tank the quality games in the OOC schedule this season and fan grumbling is going to be palpable.

RE: 2022 Maui Invitational
FWIW, ESPN's early preseason rankings for teams in the Maui VIP...

7. Creighton
10. Arkansas
16. Arizona
21. SDSU
22. Texas Tech

It's early of course, but potentially five of the eight teams in the field could be ranked Top 25. As was stated, a loss is a quality loss and a win [one win] would be even better in terms of resume and team experience/confidence. All you can ask for are opportunities...

remember: that team was sneaky good. they were 13-11 and bubble adjacent until that second trip through the Big East
