With more dominoes to fall from the top down, what will happen to OVC?

Is there any current expansion opportunities (more D-2 call ups)?
Will the trickle down effect cause more teams to leave or could the decimation of other conferences allow for teams to come to OVC for a tighter footprint (Indiana State, Southern Illinois, Western Illinois if MVFC gets ransacked)?

Should OVC look to adding schools with soccer in case of football schools leave (even with the merger of Big South)?

Big South Conference Media Day 2022:

During the Big South Conference Media Day, the commissioners from both the BSC and the Ohio Valley Conference announced together that the two conferences will indeed merge and present the new conference under a new name, which has yet to be revealed.

This new conference will go into the 2023-24 academic year with many more than 5 football-playing members at the FCS level.

I thought before it was a temporary deal. Is this permanent now.

Both conference commissioners presented it as being a fluid situation.

Even with a merge they may want to get some D2 call ups to help with geography.

They both have already done that and the BS still only has four football schools.

Will we keep our automatic bid to the NCAA basketball tournament or will there be some sort of waiting period to get the automatic bid?

I do not recall a waiting period when the American South and SBC merged.

This is going to be football only; however, the initial agreement is for 4 years. They could extend it but I see this as only temporary to get the path to the playoffs until reclassifying schools are full members. I still believe both conferences will try to expand.

I think it'll probably have a similar conference challenge like the ASUN and WAC have, but I agree. Those two conferences will eventually expand again.
