I thought it was interesting Keith Gill visited USM, but didn't personally visit Marshall, JMU, or ODU. He did that on Zoom due to COVID. My mind instantly went to that rumor last year that Gill was on the Marshall campus that really started the wheels of our realignment rumors.

I'm gonna combine a couple post replies..

1) Awww..Frisco? but us MU fans have been to Gasparilla so often the streets are looking familiar :)

2) Keith did come to Herdtown when we made the announcements...not sure if his visit to USM was more in depth, but he has been down 64 W

I missed that. What was said?

He was talking about regional rivalries and how his players deserve the big game experience. App fans will travel up to 5 hours. Fans bring energy to regional opponents, they sold out Boone when we came to town in 2016 apparently. Then he directly mentioned foils ... "No longer going to New Mexico State, or Idaho"

JMU player (didn't catch his name) just called out the CAA and the lack of depth in football power haha. Said the Sun Belt doesn't have gimme games like they did in the CAA.

Frisco Bowl would be perfect. TXST needs one in their region since we've been left out in the past for more regional teams.

I saw there is also emphasis on avoiding softball and baseball conflicts. Some schools like USA aired all baseball and softball games even if they were head to head, but I’m sure this change will be used to help everyone prevent having to choose. I love it! It was quite annoying to want to watch an away USA baseball game on ESPN+ only to find out our opponent was airing softball instead.

Sun Belt commissioner Keith Gill says the league's media deal with ESPN has been expanded and will provide "additional financial resources" and more linear opportunities for football and hoops. More softball on ESPN+. Deal extended last year and goes through 2030-31.

I wonder if that means starting next season if USM, Marshall, and ODU get SBC money.

I sort of took it the other way, as a sign of respect for the challenge ahead with SBC teams. Essentially said there is no room for any mistakes, and every game would be like a high level playoff game (eg: NDSU/Montana type matchup). They know this won't be easy.

Oh I think it is a sign of respect to the SBC grind week to week it's also just funny to hear it said about CAA.

Ha, I suppose to outsiders. Most JMU fans know we cruised thru the regular season and viewed the playoffs as the challenge. If we didn't make the semis or beyond, it was a bad year for us.

Ukwu was directly asked to compare the CAA/FCS with SBC, and gave a pretty direct answer. We often crushed CAA teams and had backups getting reps. We beat Maine 55-7, Elon 45-21, Towson 56-10 in CAA play last year.

The SBC staff did a visit earlier for working sessions this year to each of the four newbies. Gill was able to make the drive to Hattiesburg, but a bout with Covid kept him from making the east side's tour. One of the ODU papers covered their meeting. This was a couple of months ago.

Not even close. It was like something the AV Club put on in HS.
