RE: When is CUSA football media days?
I’m relatively new on this forum. I came here when Liberty decided to join CUSA. While I’ve been here, I’ve also looked in on other conference forums. Most of the other conference forums talk about their conference and how to improve it. Except the Sunbelt forum. Most of the time there is spent trashing CUSA and beating their chest about how awesome they are. One post that I read had the ACC breaking up and some of the leftover teams eagerly joining the Belt. Seriously, I’m not making this stuff up.

The only other forum that bashes CUSA more than the Sunbelt is this one. Yes, it’s flooded with former members who seem to not be able to let go. Who constantly try to affirm their departure. But there is also those who still belong to the conference who have nothing positive at all to say about CUSA. Yes, as I said, I’m new here and I don’t know all the past history. Hopefully this is not the attitude of leadership of the schools in the conference. If so, then we are doomed as a conference.

Good capture and very much in line with what I've seen. I'll add a little bit more context to your synopsis.

First, there are significantly fewer posters here now from the remaining five schools. Many just checked out after the announced departures from last winter. Much of that due to how ugly this board was for months. It was ugly and frustrating and I think many didn't see the fun of posting here anymore until things settled. I even took a few weeks off at one point because it wasn't worth trying to discuss sports on this board.

Second, it's Summer so until football season starts, it's gonna be much like you've seen. I'm hopeful football season will bring back some fun topics and discussions

As to the "negative Nancy's" from CUSA schools, I've really only seen a couple WKU and a couple MTSU fans fit that description. Much of that driven by their hopes for another option for their schools. I rarely ever see negativity about our future from LaTech, UTEP, or FIU fans.

Generally, the AAC6 who play their last year here in 2022-23, most have been classy and I have been very greatful for that. They're not as active here as they once were because they're over on the AAC board making friends. Lol.

As far as the new additions, JaxSt and Liberty fans have been supportive. NMSU fans seem to be really happy about basketball potential. The rare SHSU fan seems to be kinda wait and see.

I’d say most MT fans are just worn out. Not really on the conference that our fans aren’t happy. MT has a long history of being decent but nothing amazing and it’s worn down our fan base and most see being overlooked in realignment as proof that our leadership is not where they should be. I think you’ll see us get more positive about CUSA4.0 when football season rolls around. However, collectively the MT fans will complain constantly about our AD/President/HC until there is a change.

Thanks for bringing me up to speed on some of the past history. I totally agree with you that most of the AAC6 have been classy and I appreciate that as well. I'll be pulling for the success of all the CUSA teams (As long as they're not playing Liberty) and I hope that we can become a conference that we will all be proud of when all is said and done.

There's some additional context. CUSA at one point left the SBC for dead, and the former SBC schools have derided their old conference ever since. As you've probably seen for yourself, continue to throw insults and provocations. There's a history between the two leagues Apollo neglected to mention, and a lot of competitiveness on both sides- it's sports.

Since you mentioned me by name, I will respond. As you likely didn't notice, my response didn't once mention the SBC, any members of the SBC or the SBC3.. There was a purpose there. My focus was on the CUSA schools for 2022-23 and the CUSA 4.0 version. I was merely talking about our state as of now and looking forward. There's no need to rehash the history of the bitterness between the SBC and CUSA. That's well known to everyone on the planet and there's plenty of blame and fault all across the board for that ugly state of affairs.

Again Apollo I really appreciate the info you shared with me. I hate that it brought out an attack against you. But I would like to share an observation if I may. You guys are in most of those guys heads 24/7. They have a thread going about “other” conferences’ media days. 99% of the remarks are about CUSA. And those remarks run for 6 pages! I’m sure there will be more. You don’t spend 6 pages talking about something as insignificant as media days unless you’re obsessed with it. I know that they would never admit it, but I think they’re upset that they’re gone. I think they realize that they’ve gone to a bloated conference in which the overall quality (when you include all sports) is inferior to what they left. I could be completely wrong, but that’s my take.

Well, I’m just a visitor here, but please allow me to point out that your statement is misleading: there are a lot of pics posted on that thread which extends the number of pages. I wish people would get in the habit of deleting those videos when they are responding, because it makes scrolling the thread very tedious.

A better gauge is the number of posts on each thread, which there’s quite a bit more on the SBC thread than the one for cusa. Plus, there other threads that people are posting on about our media days…they are not just on that one thread. And as already stated cusa is not the only conf discussed, but it is the majority, for sure.

So anyway, no doubt that there is a lot of interest on the SBC board about cusa’s media days (and the conf in general), but far, far more interest in our own. The reasons for our interest in cusa have already been mentioned here so I won’t repeat.

3 Dog,

You know what's funny? You can trash Sunbelt teams like you do in the post above and all is well. If we come on here to push back at all, it's then moved to the trash talking sub forum. So make sure I understand this correctly mods, existing sinking ship CUSA teams can talk trash about anyone, as long as the SB3 who left for a better conference with more media money and less travel cost don't dispute their claims, all is well?

Anyone with a half a brain can look at your media days versus the SBC's and see who has their crap together, and who is the string Quartet playing on the Titanic.

So great USM. You did it. You somehow made yourself better than the teams you have left behind. Good for you USM. I am sure the SBC will make you a thriving college football team now that there is no one else to blame.where u really want to be is with your former CUSA teammates but this is where you landed. Now you are trying to convince everyone that the Belt is Shangri la

Like ODU-Z8 mentioned there’s a lot of history and context you’re missing and I’d hardly call that an attack on Apollo. CUSA was pretty damn dysfunctional by the end of the 3.0 era. There was no unity, no common vision for the future and most were pretty in pleased with the leadership. So for us that recently left CUSA finding all those things that were lacking makes us excited and there will be some compare and contrast happening. As Z8 mentioned the legacy members were either left there by schools who went to CUSA or have since joined and were generally seen as inferior, until they clearly weren’t. You can ask someone else about LT and the SB. I don’t have anything against any remaining CUSA school or incoming members, I hope we continue to schedule Liberty and extend that to baseball and basketball as well. That said I’m glad we are where we are now. And y’all need to clean out the conference office. But that’s your business.

Yeah we know. Everyone knows. You cancelled an entire football season. You contributed to the problem. You just got lucky. Now stay in your lane.

It’s amazing to me the the Belt having six pages of CUSA bashing is not embarrassing to them. It’s obsessing about someone while saying you are so much better than them.

Lucky with what? We’d been in conversation with regional schools in several conferences trying to make a shift happen for years. It finally came about in the form of the SBE for us. Missing the 2020 FB season wasn’t close to the problem with the conference. I wish y’all all the best in CUSA 4.0, should be a fun league.

You think that I was trashing the SBC by simply stating facts? Look for yourself if you want to see trash talk and condescending remarks. You will find the majority of 6 pages trashing CUSA. That’s not something that I made up to trash the Belt. That’s facts. Would you disagree that there is an enormous amount of obsession with CUSA on the Belt boards? If you say that there isn’t then you’re being disingenuous. I was just stating what I have observed. And then after accusing me of trashing someone, you have to take a shot at my intelligence (by the way I never even mentioned the quality or lack of any conferences’ media days) and the commissioner after you’ve already trashed the conference. You just proved the point of my observation.

I’m amazed that the CUSA conference office doesn’t proofread the graphics and misspells the nickname of one of your schools, issues a letter signed by the commissioner with the wrong number of member schools, host the basketball tournament in a football practice facility with a curtain for a few dollars and the great convenience of the schools nearby is not embarrassing to y’all.
