Question for Rice people
Might swing by your campus early next week. Anything in particular not to miss (family vacation, so other than bookstore what I'm really asking is if there is anything my kids might want to see)?

My middle kid (10) is very impressed with Rice's academic reputation (rightly). He knows y'all are a strong academic school because you apparently publish his school books.

RE: Question for Rice people
If you can visit in the evening around sundown, the Turrell Skyspace is really worth seeing...it's really near the Shepherd School and the new Opera House which is also worth seeing.

There's a lot of new construction around campus and the new buildings are pretty interesting. Take your time and enjoy the campus.

Take some time to visit the Quadrangle and inspect the carved figures in the architecture.

Question for Rice people
We have a bike track in the Football Stadium parking lot, which circumnavigates the inflatable Indoor Practice Facility for football.

If you bring your bikes you can probably ride on it.

Technically it’s a “Beer Bike” track, but that is really just nomenclature.

We have a “Design Kitchen”. Not sure how difficult it is to get a tour of it.

For that matter, contact the admissions department and see if you can schedule or get added to a full campus tour.

And visit the engineering quad for the 45, 90, 180 sculptures. A piece of the Berlin Wall is on display at the Baker Institute.

Houston has the rental bikes all around the area. Herman Park and the Rice Campus make for a great few hours of bicycling! And at Herman Park see the McGovern gardens, duck pond, and Japanese garden. The Herman Park museums are also good for kids, and you can rent a pedal boat at the pond outside of the Zoo.

Thanks for the suggestions. Going to Kemah and then NASA first.

Then a few days in the Seabrook area. Hoping to check out your campus on the back up to Cowtown.

If you're visiting campuses, maybe you can stop by SHSU on the way home, too. If not, at least stop at the Sam Houston statue conveniently located on I45 and get a photo of your son and the status.

don't pick up hitchhikers in Huntsville; they are not SHSU students looking for a ride home

Yeah. No hitchhikers in Huntsville. But we may have to consider stopping at the statue.

Bring lots of sunscreen. It's going to be another scorcher next week. But then again, you're probably used to the heat and humidity.

The Rice Village has some fun, trendy restaurants. That's just west of campus, but definitely worth checking out for lunch.

Forgot to circle back to this.

Very nice campus, the whole neighborhood around there seemed really cool.

Yes.

Whether it impressed him enough to do his 5th grade homework this year? We'll see.

The Bookends on either side thought it was nice too, but seem less interested in becoming Owls down the road.
