The SEC to 20
Sorry if I've been living under a rock...but while all eyes seemed fixated out west (partially because of the ACC's presumably solid GOR), I'm wondering what the SEC's "dream 20" would be.

I say 20 because I think that's the Big Ten's dream right now--UW, OU, ND, and Stanford.

So, in an arms race to monopolize major assets, where does the SEC look?

What's the pecking order of ACC schools?

Is there any interest westward?

Do they stoop to look at any remaining Big 12 schools?

Or are they simply NEVER looking past 16 schools?

Funny thing, that's exactly what SEC fans said about the Big Ten when they landed Texas and Oklahoma. The game wasn't over then and it's not over now.

congrats to the B1g for being tied for a distant 3rd w/ the PAC on that list with 2 or 4 if you add USC. SEC has 13 or 14 if you add Texas.

Big 10 added money but underachieving teams - SEC added money and a dominant Oklahoma. Seems like SEC won this battle.

I can't see the SEC moving until either time or lawyers can
#FreeTheACC. Getting into North Carolina is priority #1, getting into Virginia is a very close second. Add Clemson and Florida State if the math works and to keep the B1G out. I don't know if West Virginia and Kansas bring enough new money in, but if they do, they would be my picks for 19 and 20.

RE: The SEC to 20
I don't know why 20 is some magic number. It only really works if you add a school and it increases the money for everyone. I can see why this would work for Notre Dame. I can see why it would work for UNC. And maybe it works for a small number of other schools (Oregon? Clemson?). But I still maintain the list is pretty short. Besides, the issue with say a school like a Clemson is what happens in 10 years and they're not vying for national championships? Everything is cyclical. It used to be Miami and Nebraska. Then schools like Florida and Florida St. Miami came back and then came USC. But lately it's basically been Alabama or some random SEC team or Clemson or possibly Ohio St. To assume this keeps forever is fallacy. And if Clemson becomes more like a Michigan St, does that make sense for the Big10?

RE: The SEC to 20
I actually think we are going to see a further consolidation into a P2 with both conferences going to 24.
The BIG will end up with ND and most of the PAC to control the north and west.
The SEC will take its pick of the ACC and B12. My guess is FSU, Clemson, UNC, UVa; plus a combo of the "State" and "Tech" U's and possibly WVU and KU/KSU.
Future expansion moves and money will be based on streaming. The dynamic on TVs in a state will change. Schools will be evaluated on the number of t-shirt fans willing to pay to watch. So in some cases, a school that was previously hindered by being too small/private/low pop state or 3rd/4th school in a state, may actually find its value going up if it generates a strong following.

RE: The SEC to 20
The final solution will be when The SEC picks The Big 10 apart. It might not happen for a decade or two, but it will happen. The greed in both conferences will eventually rise again. The SEC probably has a plan in place to do it.

Look how quickly Ohio State, Penn State and Wisconsin turned on Big Ten leadership in 2020 when they thought they weren’t going to play. That happened too fast.

Imagine when The SEC starts whispering in Ohio State and Michigan’s ear about the money they could make in The SEC.

The two biggest dawgs always fight. It’s just a matter of time

This. The B10 is crowing right now but the reality is that they added no one that will help them beat the SEC for national titles. Frankly, there’s no one they could add at this moment that would help them do that with the exception of Clemson… who does not add to the pie for the B10 at all.

Your just comparing the good SEC teams vs the good B1G team. That's not fair...

Ken, with the exception of Ohio State it was over 20 years before OU and UT joined. There will be a P2. NIL will have more leveling to do before it's a 2-horse race again. Changing culture outside of the South with regards to football, financially segregated travel sports, and population shift in the North, and I'm talking losing blue collar jobs replaced by midlevel white collar ones. When this happens the age changes from middle aged parents of teens to unmarried or young 2 paycheck households. And from your son needs to man up mentality to sheltering parents who don't have time or energy for extra curriculars. Football is king in the South because it remains more blue collar and less insular. NIL can take care of the luring of talent away, but until grassroots culture changes the SE and SW will remain advantaged because kids want to play close to home.

It will get closer, but it will not fundamentally change.

Might not make the most money but SEC should grab 8, killing GOR. Grab FSU, Miami, Clemson, and Louisville. Keeps Big 10 out of our states with some big programs. Then Virginia and VT. North Carolina and pick who you want to come with you, probably Duke.

Assuming your including the much-needed exchange of Missouri among these transactions?

Let's hope so.

If the SEC doesnt take Clemson it will still have the SC market through USC. Recruits will migrate to USC since it will be part of the Big2 or the perceived top level of play.

So you take in the perfect world for the SEC: UNC, UVA or Va Tech and FSU or Miami. Florida has a large enough population for multiple teams. SEC could venture west and take an AZ team, Oregon, Utah or a Colorado team. Or even if a Kansas or Kansas St.

With the USCw and UCLA move recruiting to any league not named SEC and BIG has gotten real hard.
