Pac-12 gut puch - interview Ex-FSN executive
I think most of you already had read this article but I found some interesting points from the interviews with Bob Thompson, Ex-Fox Sports Network executive.

https://www.johncanzano.com/p/canzano-pa...with?sd=pf

1.

“Prior to the desertion, Thompson anticipated the Pac-12 would land a deal in the neighborhood of $500 million per-year average over the course of the contract.”

That’s going to be about $41.6 million per the Pac 12 school. The ACC won’t have a chance for renegotiation until 2035 but I think the ACC will hit that point around 2028 or 2029 (counting only TV money). In other words, the Pac 12’s next media deal will be similar to the current ACC deal. It’s definitely not much better than the current ACC deal if Thompson’s projection is correct.

2.

“However, Thompson estimated that those two Pac-12 universities, along with the Oregon and Washington television markets, would only generate an additional $60 million in combined additional revenues.
It’s good money, but well shy of the $143 million breakeven for the Big Ten.”

If Oregon and Washington (as combined) generate only $60 million, I don’t know what’s the point of the adding these schools. Actually it’s even below than the ACC threshold, which is larger than $30 million per school.

3.

“...can’t help but wonder about the conference’s woeful decision under former commissioner Larry Scott in late 2018 to reject ESPN’s offer to extend their current media rights deal and take over management and distribution of the Pac-12 Networks. That deal would have extended into the 2030s and locked USC and UCLA into the conference.
At the time Scott said he thought it was best to wait to the end of the current deal. He didn’t want the conference to miss out on what might be a much larger windfall in the next round of media rights negotiations. Now, the Pac-12 finds itself in a scramble.”

Isn’t this exactly what Swofford did? I understand why FSU fans are mad at that decision but most other ACC teams are benefitting from extending the GoR, especially if the Pac’s new media deal won’t be much better than the current ACC deal anyway.
