Well, our next away game is the Memphis game on the 12th, so this is the time when we can rack up a whole bunch of "Ws" quickly. NYTech, WMich, and others in this stretch shouldn't pose a huge problem for us, we just need to get it done. We sit at 3-3 presently, and could be as good as 12-3 going into the Memphis game!!!

Rebels To Begin Nine-Game Homestand Friday Night
Ole Miss to host Western Michigan Friday night at 6:30 p.m.

Feb. 27, 2003

OXFORD, Miss. - Ole Miss will open a nine-game homestand Friday night when the Rebels host the Western Michigan Broncos at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.

Friday's game is the first of three games scheduled this weekend between the Rebels and Broncos. Saturday's game is slated for 1:30 p.m., and Sunday also has a scheduled start time of 1:30 p.m.

Ole Miss (3-3) is looking to get back above the .500-mark after going 1-2 at last weekend's Crowne Plaza/Rice Invitational in Houston, Texas. The Rebels lost 8-7 to Texas-Arlington and 6-0 to No. 2 Rice on Saturday before rebounding with a 5-2 win over No. 23 Stetson on Sunday.

Sophomore right-hander Alan Horne (1-1, 7.45 ERA) is scheduled to start on the mound Friday night for the Rebels. Horne suffered the loss against Rice in his last start, allowing six runs on nine hits and two walks in 3 2/3 innings.

Freshman right-hander Mark Holliman (1-0, 3.38 ERA) is slated to start on Saturday followed by senior right-hander T.J. Beam (0-0, 2.08 ERA) on Sunday. Holliman allowed one run over seven innings in taking a no decision against Texas-Arlington last Saturday. Beam made his first start of the year last Sunday against Stetson, allowing two runs on five hits and two walks over six innings in taking a no decision.

Offensively, senior shortstop Chad Sterbens continues to pace the Rebels, batting .417 with one HR and a team-high 10 RBIs. He also enters the weekend with a modest five-game hitting streak.

Friday night's game will be Western Michigan's season opener and will mark the start of the Broncos' 28th season under head coach Fred Decker. Western Michigan finished 22-25 overall last year, including 12-13 in the Mid-American Conference to finish fourth in the MAC West Division.

The Broncos are projected to start three lefties against Ole Miss. Senior Pat Misch (6-2, 5.63 ERA in 2002), a fifth-round draft pick of the Houston Astros last summer, is scheduled to start Friday. Senior Brad Mumma (5-4, 4.55) is slated to be the Saturday starter and junior J.R. Mathes is scheduled to take the hill on Sunday.

Friday's and Saturday's games will be carried locally in Oxford on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi 105.5 FM, beginning 15 minutes prior to first pitch. Sunday's game will not aired due to conflicts with Ole Miss men's and women's basketball being played at the same time.

PITCHING MATCH-UPS VS. WESTERN MICHIGAN
FRIDAY: WMU- Pat Misch (Sr., LHP, 6-2, 5.63); UM- Alan Horne (So., RHP, 1-1, 7.45)
SATURDAY: WMU- Brad Mumma (Sr., LHP, 5-4, 4.55); UM- Mark Holliman (Fr., RHP, 1-0, 3.38)
SUNDAY: WMU- J.R. Mathes (Jr., LHP, 1-3, 4.93); UM- T.J. Beam (Sr., RHP, 0-0, 2.08)

Rx, Freud would be having a field day with all these "slips" you are having.

How much of a STUD are you, Wiz? (Like the bank robber, I think it was Richard Roundtree before he became Shaft, said to Dirty Harry, "I just gots ta know!") You keeping this poor girl flustered all the time and her calling everybody except Peanut , " Wiz". We still haven't met but it is going to be an "honor"; Elvis may have died but the "King" is still roaming around. Won't that be something if you get up in Mempho - Big "E's" old stomping ground?

:: Just funning with you RX. I know as many men as you have following you around with their tongues hanging out, you get confused about who you are communicating with, but you are going to give Wiz the big head. ::  03-wink

"Who loves ya, baby?"
- Kojak :D 03-wink :D

Well, I dunno about being a stud, but you know how some guys have a six pack from weighlifting, well, you could say I've got a keg....from beer lifting. 03-lol

Memphis is a radio market I've wanted to work in for a long time. Tim at Rock 103 wanted to hire me to do weekends a few years ago, but I had just taken a full time gig at the station in Tupelo. You don't know how hard it was telling him I couldn't do it. :bang:

It's a fun city, especially with everything they've done to revitalize downtown, and all I can do is hope that the station slides a contract my way.

I love to listen to those guys early in the morning - usually when I'm traveling to Jackson or Memphis. Switch between country and oldies, most of the time. My wife left it on Kid Cradic (sp.) and I've listened to that some..they are fairly entertaining.

Good luck on the Rock 103 deal.

Actually, it's not Rock 103, but a very similar station. Can't say which one on here until things are solidified, but I'd be competing against Rock 103...and I love a good challenge. They won't be easy to beat.

Definitely. I will make a post letting everyone know which one, since most of you will be able to listen, and those who can't can listen on the internet.

Wiz, have you ever run into a radio guy in J-town named David Parnell? I worked with him at a parttime job there. He had been a DJ on the best AOR station I've ever heard before or since: the WZZQ (102) of the late 70s/early 80s. They had the uncanny knack of playing song lineups that I would've chosen myself. ZZQ went country in mid to late 80s, so that was that. No decent replacement, at least thru '91 when I moved away. Also Randy Bell of JDX/ZZQ (same stations); I worked with his wife at my real job for a time.

I can still hear Parnell and crew: "It's a little before 10, you're listening to WZZQ, Jackson." Then some gem like Kashmir by Led Zeppelin!

In my Jackson years, '79-'91, there was nowhere I'd rather have lived, believe it or not. Nowhere! But now of course, its one of those places 'you can't go back to.' It just ain't even close to the same, sadly.

I used to really like rock 103. But, while working in Memphis this summer, I found a new favorite Mempho radio station. I don't know where they stand in the market, but I LOVE 94.1...THE BUZZ 03-wink

Yeah, the Buzz is one of two Hot AC stations in Memphis, but they're pushing Alternative and they're competing more with 93X than FM 100. Good station, and actually, we have a Rebel doing weekends there...Nate Downs. They're doing pretty well in the ratings right now.
