We will always get decent recruits, and our TV exposure or $ can't really go further south. Since we're top of the second tier, I feel this only creates potential opportunity for us, or washes right on by. Maybe the mega conferences stop scheduling the P5, but Illinois and Purdue will always need someone to move them to bow eligible, no?
I’m not sure how a super conference will set divisions up, but fringe contenders like Wisconsin and Iowa just took a step back. If the B1G adds a couple more teams as I keep seeing, like Notre Dame and Washington, Wisconsin and Iowa turn into Minnesota and Indiana.

I get a kick out of watching mid-tier p5 teams cry about their new reality. Sorry Texas Tech, you were always closer to NIU than you were to Texas/USC etc.
Yeah, I don’t think so. Texas Tech has 40K student and a $2 billion endowment. NIU is closer to being a Division II school than Texas Tech.
Texas' endowment is 31B. Last time I checked 2 is closer to 0 than to 31.
So by that logic a school with 1 billion is more like a school with 50 million than a school with 2 billion.
Heck, I think TT is more like a community college than UT!
But then again, what does that say about NIU then?

The NIL money is squeezing the P5 schools. Donor money is going to the players and not the schools. Need more money to fuel the overhead and non -revenue sports.

Say it is or isn't occurring, but the donors are not to have a direct relationship to the athlete or even though NIL. I would also say many individual donors want nothing to do with NIL as they want the association and donate to the school, not to to individual players year after year if not for returns then possible legal issues. But there are donors with lots of money who want to buy a team and it seems no one is going to stop them. I have no idea how any of this works where someone can directly contribute to or even be an entity that in all senses recruits and pays a player in exchange for attendance. I mean when it's public knowledge that a kid took like million less to go to UM over UF how can that be?
It's almost like a political argument where NCAA, schools and players are all keeping their mouth shut on this. I have yet to hear any of them condemn this. But to me, at least for now it's kids are getting paid and you can't condemn that, some schools shut up as they are getting the advantage of it and condemning it will turn kids away and NCAA plays Pontius Pilate.
As far as non-revenue sports, it's market yourself. Some go through NIL outlets on national level or at school. A lot of girls with looks have hooked up with clothing, performance wear and drink/food, camps and such. And much of that is due to social media following like gymnast Livvy Dunne at LSU who has like 5 million Tik Tok users. That at least makes sense because she isn't at LSU because of NIL. One look at her tells you why she has like $1,000.000+ in NIL $.

Is there a NIL site for NIU fans?

Thanks for posting this!
This is something I wanted and needed to see. This is the way I hoped it to work. This at least seems genuine, at least until the star QB somewhere (would not be UI lol) gets 500k to show kindergarten kids how to color between the lines. I could see the corruption, the promise perhaps at a school in Florida. And again, this is also a direct line from donor to student that seems "ok" I guess.
I have seen a few softball players from Bama and others do camps at reasonable prices, sell merchandise. To me, that , this fund IS what is should be and perhaps was to be until some read the rules. I know Kofi was tied to some credit union or bank at UI and I saw a sign. Rumors were 6 figures to "stay in school."
It's nice to see this, if it is as legit as it appears (it's a Mt. Carmel guy...so it has to be!) UI or not for some, doing good and rewarding the student athlete, especially if is is a lesser sport or someone who really needs the $ and WANTS to do this type of thing.
