Which has nothing to do with football.
The sec is an southeastern conference which by definition is the confederacy. While the BIG is a northern/Midwestern conference which is made by necessity of union states.
Also you’ve left out bleeding Kansas.

And Missouri was a slave state as was kentucky

I think much of East TN sympathized with the Union, as well

Yep! There is a big reason why the state of Tennessee was last to join the Confederacy and First to rejoin the Union. "East Tennessee" was clearly a union stronghold before, during, and after the war. But Kentucky and Missouri both had numerous citizens who enlisted in both armies. Lot of split sympathies in all three states.

Yep. Less than 40% of Kentuckians who fought in the war fought for the CSA. Over 60% fought for the USA. Kentucky never seceded and would never have mainly due to economics because of their strong connection to the North...major cities along the Ohio River and all the trade and commerce with the North. Obviously KY was a slave state, primarily around Lexington Bluegrass Region and far Western KY closer to the Mississippi. Huge swaths of the state had little to no slavery, especially Appalachia. Much like Western VA and East Tennessee, they had more loyalty to the North than the slave south. TN border areas had more sympathy with the South, like Bowling Green, which did declare itself the Confederate capital of KY, altho KY never seceded.

Interestingly, many KY scholars will state that KY joined the South after the War. Because KY had been a slave state, Union soldiers and their actions as well as reconstruction affects devastated KY after the war. Lots of resentment for staying loyal but being punished nevertheless.

Conner Prairie near Indianapolis has a whole section on a Kentucky CSA raid into Indiana. I guess my history was wrong and Kentucky was neutral

The most famous raid was Morgan's Raid. They raided into KY, Indiana, Ohio, and WVA in 1863. Crossed into Indiana around Brandenburg, KY (West of Louisviile). They originally came up from Tennessee.

Getting this back on topic for what this thread is supposed to be about.

Per the CO beat writer

Quote:Colorado board of regents canceled tonight's meeting about athletics and realignment. The group met Tuesday, so basically, I'm told administration and regents decided more info needs to be gathered before meeting again. No action was slated to be made today anyway. #cubuffs

PAC-10 must be staying together or CU thinks B1G membership is a possibility in the future.
