The Rebels took game two of the series against Western Michigan 5-1 today. They'll look to wrap things up and keep the streak alive tomorrow at 1:30. I just might drive back up there for it. I had prior commitments for tonight though.

Hotty Toddy!

Pitching Paves The Way For Ole Miss Again Over Western Michigan
Freshman right-hander Mark Holliman strikes out eight over seven innings to lead the Rebels to a 5-1 victory.

March 1, 2003

OXFORD, Miss. - Freshman right-hander Mark Holliman struck out a season-high eight over seven innings to lead Ole Miss to a 5-1 win over Western Michigan Saturday afternoon in front 1,872 at Oxford-University Stadium/Swayze Field.

The Rebels also won Friday's series opener 8-2 to clinch the series and will go for the three-game sweep of the Broncos Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m.

Holliman (2-0) scattered six hits and walked none in allowing one run over his seven innings of work, tying his season-long performance set last weekend against UT-Arlington. The Broncos only run off Holliman came on a solo home run by shortstop Adam Rosales in the sixth inning to make it 5-1.

Leading 2-1, Ole Miss broke the game open with three runs in the sixth. Charlie Waite's two-run double to score Charlie Babineaux and Dustin Cliburn extended the Rebels' lead to 4-1, and after stealing third, Waite scored on a suicide squeeze by center fielder Matt Mossberg.

Babineaux, Cliburn and Waite all recorded two hits each as Ole Miss out-hit Western Michigan 10-7. Cliburn put Ole Miss up front with a solo home run in the fourth, and the Rebels added another run on a Chad Sterbens' RBI single in the fifth.

Western Michigan starter Brad Mumma (0-1) suffered the loss, allowing five runs on eight hits and two walks, while striking out two over six innings of work.

Rosales and Tom Fabrizio had two hits each to lead the Broncos at the plate.

Sunday's game will not be carried on WTNM Supertalk Mississippi 105.5 FM or over the internet at http://www.OleMissSports.com due to conflicts with Ole Miss men's and women's basketball.

Yeah, Holliman looked really good today. Any times he got in trouble, he stayed calm and worked his way out of it. He looks great for a true freshman. He gave up one home run, but he struck out eight batters. I think Dustin Cliburn is going to turn out to be a pretty good first baseman for us. He hit that home run a mile. It was kinda cold and very cloudy, but worth the trip.

I'm already realizing that I won't make the game tomorrow though since I've got soooo much to do to get ready for the radiothon for the children's hospital this Thursday and Friday.

Today was fun though.

04-cheers

Not to mention that playing Memphis at Autozone Park is virtually a home game for us since we've outnumbered the Tiger fans 2 to 1 the past two years we've played it there.
