RE: Bill Clark stepping down
I wonder if this is why we saw a few of our staff take some lateral looking moves. They knew this was coming possibly

RE: Bill Clark stepping down
Really appreciate Coach Clark's commitment and loyalty to UAB. For the next coach, if he is successful, UAB will be just a stepping stone.
My hopes are this situation "Now allows his staff an opportunity to prove themselves before the AAC (ICB).

RE: Bill Clark stepping down
Bill has always been very much aware of his state of Alabama retirement status, and I think that's one of the reasons he hasn't considered many out of state jobs. As the son of a coach/educator, he knew that he could put his family in a good position by just hanging on. Of course, multi-million dollar contracts will provide that security too--but taxes eat up much of that, and the security of that retirement has always been a positive for him. He is old school, and he also marches to his own drum--which is why has defied all expectations and is still at UAB.
Still, assuming there is nothing else to the story, it wouldn't surprise me for him to get his state retirement in order, and then be back in coaching within two years.
Either way, I am appreciative for what he has done for UAB and our football program.

Doesn't sound like this is the end of his coaching career.

Plenty of people continue to work after spinal fusions. Job modifications can be made to accommodate spinal and mobility. For God's sake Jabba the Hutt Wayne Bolt coached for us, and he looked like the most unhealthy human alive. It makes no sense to RETIRE outright just before the season starts, after being here so long and going through what he's gone through and building what he's built. It makes no sense to me to outright retire at his age for a surgery that thousands of people go through and keep working. I would completely understand if he took the year off, stepped away, or whatever, but to outright retire is bizarre to me.
I hope someone can shed some light on this.
In any case, I hope he has a successful surgery and recovers, but this sucks majorly
I am on your side on this one ,,,rumors is the AD and the Presidents were not part of the solutions but something major is missing on top of everything

I disagree. Coach Clark, to me, is a straight up guy. IF he decides to leaves for another coaching position, he would come out and say it and not use smoke and mirrors or any other deceitful shell games to hide his intentions. He is the epitome of character

This.
I don’t know anything about fusions and such, but I hope they can fix him up and he goes on to do more great things in either coaching or out of coaching
Now time for Ingram to hit another Kennedy type of home run hire.

UAB coach Bill Clark in his news conference says the decision to retire was still in question even last night. His back, best case, can fully recover after surgery in six months. Didn't rule out coming back.

RE: Bill Clark stepping down
He is probably stepping down now to give his assistants a chance at the job. He will recover and take another job in another state. If his staff doesn’t get the UAB job, he will bring them along. My prediction.
Amazing he has done this well under this much pain.
