Top 5 are Bama, OSU, Michigan, Georgia and LSU. SMU in good company.

Honorable mention
Miami: Tyler Van Dyke is a Heisman contender, but backup Jake Garcia is a blue-chip recruit who has shown some real signs in Coral Gables. Offensive coordinator Josh Gattis should do wonders with this group.

Penn State: When Sean Clifford can stay healthy, the Nittany Lions are a Big Ten contender. Luckily, blue-chip freshman Drew Allar gives Penn State far more insurance -- and upside -- in case of emergency.

SMU: Tanner Mordecai is the headliner, but former blue-chip recruit Preston Stone chose to stay home over offers from around the country. He's the next big-time Group of Five quarterback.

Texas: Quinn Ewers is a former No. 1 recruit and freshman Maalik Murphy ranked among the top 200 players, too. Hudson Card beat out upperclassman Casey Thompson for the starting job over the offseason and still has plenty of upside. The only thing keeping this group off the list is experience.

Texas A&M: The Aggies had bad quarterback play in 2021, but added proven SEC starter Max Johnson and No. 2 national quarterback recruit Conner Weigman next to opening-day starter Haynes King. With this much depth, contending for the conference is the expectation

I'm looking forward to this season, especially the TCU game.
