Talk about a ripple effect-- assume they did not put time back on the clock and the Huskers win:

1) UC plays Alabama in the NC
2) BK stays for at least one more year (at this point ND would not have waited)
3) UC to the ACC instead of Louisville
4) Butch Jones to UC would have never happened, he would have taken another job for the 2010 season and would not have hopped to UC in 2011 if/when BK left. Would have been interesting to see who we would have grabbed after that.
5) Probably no Tuberville due to cascading events.

Be careful what we wish for. If we never had Tuberville, would we still have gotten Fickell?

BK was a good coach, but Fickell is more than just a good coach. He's the perfect man for our program on every level.

Unless your could guarantee me uc won the national championship i wouldn't change it if I could at this point but in the moment it was brutal.

2009 is still my all time favorite uc team just because the leap felt so much more improbable as a 90s/early2000s uc football fan.

The Texas voters would have voted for TCU and we’d have been jumped in the poll.

Tcu was already ahead of us in the human polls. Our computer numbers were strong enough to make up that difference.

Most don't realize the big east was the second best conference in the country that season according to sagarin. The computers loved uc.

2008 and 2009 are still my favorite teams. The close game and how new it was for UC football made every week very memorable.

The lack of quality conference games, covid, and committee bs made the last two seasons feel like winning wasn’t just enough.

I still would pick 2009 over the last year. You couldn’t replicate what is was like playing in the Big East that year.

BK to ND was a "done deal" a LONG time before the season was over. He had his son enrolled at Culver Academy in August, he had his house remodeled and conveniently empty and ready to go on the market in November. It did not matter what happened after that last game versus Pitt. He was gone...gone...gone.

And a great deal of UC fans were on the "Dream Job" bandwagon, so I find no reason why the "National Championship" game would matter in his decision. Brian Kelly got out when the getting was good, before he could get waxed by Florida or Alabama.

And Bo Pellini is a complete ass...I don't trust a word that comes out of his mouth.

He was an ass but he won 9 or 10 games every year. Since then they have done it once. Nebraska administration are the real asses. They still think Tom Osborne II exists; he does not. Solich averaged winning 10 games a year and they fired him. Firing Solich and Pelini resulted in horrible records. Nebraska will never have an Osborne type run again.

Bolded, this is hard for some people to comprehend, retrospectively. At that point, beloved Nippert was so clearly deficient as a major college football venue. Combined with UC's lack of practice facilities it was almost as if Kelly crafted an undefeated season in a BCS 6 conference with smoke and mirrors.

There's no denying that 2009 offense was as exciting as any we've ever seen--maybe in all of college football. But what's been built on that foundation is so much more satisfying--an excellent, committed coach, the CFP, the Big 12, a splendid Nippert. Recruiting is the best it's ever been and we're looking forward to designs for a new IPF.

I have heard interviews that BK said he would have stayed to coach UC in the national title game. He made it sound like he was doing everyone a favor. He was gone.

I heard that also, I consider it just blowing smoke.
