Imagine that - a lib can’t fix his own fence.

On a side note, and I kid you not, there’s a fast food joint near my office with a sign in the drive thru window saying now hiring and a minimum requirements list:

- work when scheduled
- wear proper uniform
- have a good attitude

That’s it. That’s what it says

I was in marching band in high school. The northern end of the practice field we used had a wooden fence. It never fell the **** down because it's was supported by medal piping, similar to chain link fencing.

Over the last couple of weeks ive been opening the gate that is attached to the fence around my backyard. Letting people through to give me estimates on a pool and backyard kitchen. No tattooed coughing day laborers though.

First CrimsonPhallic --- the fence was not being "fixed" it was being replaced. When you buy a *new car* you don't tell the neighbors the "old one is fixed".... right? Second, so yes I have a new fence. The contractor finished. Third, as an all-knowing all seeing moderator... where is that habitual poster - the 80-year-old alpha male - ShereKlan? And that other Looney Tune - covid is just a cold - Bartletttiger? I'm concerned.... No weak name calling from them.

First day someone comes over and says he's never met the guy I contracted with. This guy apparently "met" him on Craigslist. A day laborer. No problem. Anyway I'm talking to this guy and I noticed he's all tated up. The tattoo on his hand says something profane about the cops. The various other tattoos I either don't recognize or relate to the Insane Clown Posse. Okay that's the background. So I'm talking to this guy while he smoking a cigarettes.. and he's telling me his life story. Stuff about moving to California with a promise place to live but then his friend double crossed him....etc etc. I noticed he starts coughing said he's been sick. So naturally the conversation switched to prior illnesses and the pandemic. He said he's been covid-19 infected ...it was a breeze... he was only in bed for 3 days. THEN said the things that made me think about this board. He started talking about Bill Gates. Said Bill Gates had altered mosquitoes DNA so that they would inoculate people with the MRNA vaccine. Anybody that says that sort of scares me... So I nodded my head yes.... Then he added that he knew this because Bill Gates had done something similar before. I asked what. He said Gates had sent out drones that darted people against the zika virus. Maybe it was Ebola.. I forget. But definitely was Bill Gates and his drones. Anyway, long story short, I immediately thought of this board. Thank you for helping me cope.

You left out the most important part of the story. Did he get the fence fixed?

First, that’s not the most important part. What kind of fence is it? How high?

Second, do you still have his number? If it’s who I think it is he owes me money. It was 15 years ago but it’s an amount that is too big to let go so easily.

Well this might be one of the odder threads I have read on this board. I'm stuck trying to imagine Crimson's cinder block fence. Only time I have seen those are in Mexico and they were usually topped with broken bottles

When I was about twelve years old, there was this 30 foot wood fence dividing my parents house from a neighbors. One day it just fell down. The wood had rotted away. The neighbor and my parents split the cost for a cinderblock wall to replace it.

I forget that you are in NM. I'd imagine block would last a lot longer in that environment

I have one in SE Arizona.

I love it, but I'd never start a thread about it.

One place that is known for their cinder block fences is Phoenix. I don't know if Tucson can be included in that as I've rarely gone there.

In El Paso our fences are made of granite stone. It seems that you won't find a house without one. It's not pretty but it gets the job done. I told my wife that if an invading army came to El Paso they would have a hard time invading it because of it's fortifications. You could hide in a lot of places and sneak up on an enemy pretty easily. But...I guess they're still better looking than living in a place with rundown wooden fences or no fences at all and thus no privacy. I like cinder block fences you can decorate them or paint on them much easier than rockwalls. Cinderblock fences are rare here though.

Tucson has them. I'm about 70 miles SE of Tucson and most of the town I live in uses them if the homeowners have the money to pay for them. Very useful in keeping unwanted wild animals out of your property.

I also used to have a lot of guns (that I recently lost in a tragic boating accident), in case they make it over the wall from time to time.

I don’t think I’ve been to many places where I haven’t seen at least some. Perhaps not in suburbs full of rows of McMansions sitting acre sized plots, but on normal sized lots they exist everywhere. People probably haven’t noticed them because in wet climates they are usually covered with vines.
