New age of college sports
In this new era of college sports I don't think the kids care as much about bowl games and the NCAA tourney anymore. They are more interested in the $$ and getting to the next level. Because of that I don't think NCAA penalties have as much weight in a kid deciding where he will play.

What do ya'll think?

College sports is no longer about the fan & its going to end up alienating the very people who pay the money to afford the NIL’s. The golden goose is being cooked.

Yep. All players should have been paid a set amount. Greed caused the cow to get out of the barn.

The NFL, the most popular & successful professional sports league in the country, has a salary cap & splits league profits equally… so does the SEC.

That being said, players playing at 3 schools in 5 years will ultimately kill fan interest… particularly at schools in the the G5 and bottom third of the G5.

I'll wait and see what occurs over the next couple years but I already feel like I'm losing interest in college sports. Changes like the transfer portal and NIL. I understand why players may want money or why a player may want to transfer but there other issues created by these changes.

College sports in general sucks. If the Tigers didn’t have a football and basketball program, I wouldn’t watch any college games at all.

Yep. All players should have been paid a set amount. Greed caused the cow to get out of the barn.

Please do not introduce a new metaphor to immediately follow an existing metaphor. This is when it’s appropriate to mix metaphors. Possibilities include: “Greed caused the golden goose to get out of the barn,” or “Greed is causing the cow to be cooked.” Either choice adheres to the logic that most readers of this forum have come to expect. Thank you.

I am with you about watching, but it isn't because college sports suck. It is because the governing body has been dedicated to the very elite at the top of college sports to the detriment of competition and fan appreciation.

It started a long time ago but it’s out in the open now. If you want to watch student athletes go watch Rhodes or Milsaps

In this day and age almost everything is tied to politics. Only those with their heads buried in the sand fail to recognize that.

Agree completely. I have little energy left for this dumpster fire. When the players on the Grizzlies are more likely to be back next year than a college starter, there is a real danger of nobody giving a crap anymore.

There were good ways to get student athletes well deserved stipends, but $8,000,000 contracts while other players get nothing is not it.

RE: New age of college sports
There is a reason college sports have traditionally drawn & minor league professional sports have not. If there is no connection between player & fan; and players cheered for one season are on a rival squad the next year, & then another squad the following, then will fans begin to lose that passion for the “Memphis Tigers” & treat the more like the “Memphis Redbirds?”

I think the impact will be felt more with basketball than football. Fans are closer & there is no helmet, so fans tend to recognize & bond.
