106 vs 108 vs 110...

Whoopee

Sun Belt leading the pack, three classes better than our best, and bringing up the rear with the worst individual class and three of the six ranked 130 or worse.

Three mediocre conferences all on the same (bottom)rung of the ladder.

Taking JMU out of the equation would move the Sun Belt shead of the MAC but still fractionally behind CUSA at 105.85.

Not that any of that matters.

That's true, although to a lesser extent Jacksonville State is dragging the CUSA rating down at #148. Sam Houston State though is already recruiting like an FBS team at #104.

Meh...just looking at Georgia Southern, most of our recruiting class wasn't even evaluated...not even the obligatory "we'll get to you" 2 star rating. With those filled in, even with mid level 2 star ratings, we'd rank up considerably. I'm sure there are other schools in these conferences in the same scenario.

JSU has several not graded, also. Sure the others have those too.

Our recruiting hasnt finished as RR said to expect 50-60 new players after the end of spring practice.

This will piss of the Sun Belt folks who think they’ve joined the SEC, but there just isn’t much of a difference between the Sun Belt / C-USA / MAC and none of the three are very far behind the AAC / MWC. Hell, if you pull Memphis and SMU out of the AAC and Boise and San Diego State out of the MWC, there is no difference between any of the G5.

We are filler teams for some midweek football for TV and gambling degenerates.

Our FBS history began in 98 or 99. Under Coach Stock (last 16+ years) recruiting rankings for Middle Tennessee have been AWFUL. 03-weeping Andy McCollum (who was at MT for the move up to FBS and for 4+ years & He even beat Vandy three straight times) could recruit Football players but he had us taking folks that put us in Academic Purgatory. On the bright side, our administration loves Stock cause we are always in the Top Ten in the annual Academic Progress Rate category. (Meanwhile, my Raiders have lost 4 straight to Vandy under Stock) 07-coffee3

May have the number off by a few but no. Said the talent level wasnt what he wanted.
Sounds like a lot of transfers will be coming to JSU.

I can't speak for the other FCS transition teams, but 247 is awful for JMU. They only have 4 total commits (not counting the transfers) when the class was actually 14. Not sure how long it takes for 247 to be accurate, but I assume it will be more accurate once JMU has a full year under it's belt in FBS.

This could be a risky approach. Building through traditional high school recruiting has worked better long term. Georgia Southern went with the quick fix while App stuck to high schoolers for the 2013-2014 transition.

Of course it's a different world today with NIL and transferring.

RE: Future CUSA Out-recruited the Future Sun Belt and MAC in 2022 in Football
Some of these schools have less than 10 recruits, some have over 30. The avg ranking could be the same but the one with the larger class ranked 50 spots higher just due to having a larger class. Recruit rankings should be taken with a grain of salt in general but when you’re giving larger classes more weight because a school needs more players it makes no sense at all.

If JSU brings in 50+ players this year (which is insane) they’d likely have a top 50 class regardless of how good those players are.

Advantage of being a 9 team conference vs 14. Take the top 9 and you will see the SBC is clearly ahead.

I always find G5 recruiting rankings absolute garbage. UAB is a great example. Bill Clark’s UAB teams have been middle of the pack in CUSA recruiting. Other teams have had much higher graded classes. You’d think that might translate to being a middle of the pack CUSA team? Nope. The most consistent winner of the last 5 years in conference play. The program has not finished lower than second place in the west division since the return, won 2 conference championships, and played in 3 championship games. Let’s wait and see how it plays out on-field.
