RE: Official EMU Basketball Lineup Thread (22-23)

It might be too much competition at PF with Billingsley coming in. But it might be an interesting experiment to put Golson as Center if EMU is able to get a true SF.
Agree it’s preferable for SF to hit the three ball, but since Golson is good at hitting the 2-ball at a high rate (56.2 percent in MAC play), there’s no necessity for him to shoot the three-ball. Don’t see him getting winded.
Don’t want to see him playing down-low again, as on both sides of the ball he plays poorly inside. EMU needs his length guarding three-point shooters.

Here’s how I would like to see EMU’s present line-up:
PG - Noah Farrakhan / Luka Savicevic
SG - Acuff / Kevin-David Rice
SF - Transfer/ Colin Golson Jr.
PF- Jalin Billingsley / Randle/ Yusuf Jihad / Derek Ballard Jr.
C - Transfer/ Javantae Randle/ Yusif Jihad
Thanks for the update Miggy.
I don’t see any way Golson is on the bench. Also think it’s possible that Rice beats out Acuff.

While I think Golson should play the SF position, HC Heath may well play him again at PF. If so, he’ll likely be competing against Randle and Billingsley for playing time.Regardless, I hope EMU new players are better
than Golson.
Admittedly, Golson is a good 2-point shooter and driver to the hoop, but he doesn’t know when to shoot jumpers, drive to the hoop, or pass the ball. He has few assists.
On defense, he’s often out of position and potential rebounds often pass over his head. He also doesn’t know where to go to provide inside help. This manifest itself in him having a low offensive and poor defensive rating. Simply put, he doesn’t play well with other players.
I hope Golson will improve his game, but I saw no growth from him over the course of last season.

This topic will no doubt see significant changes over the next few months. But I’ll get the ball rolling:
PG - Noah Farrakhan / Luka Savicevic
SG - Transfer / Kevin-David Rice
SF - Transfer / Transfer / Transfer
PF - Colin Golson Jr. / Transfer / Derek Ballard Jr.
C - Transfer / Yusuf Jihad / Javantae Randle
Obviously we’re not going to sign all transfers, so I expect to see a high school signee or two.
We have 6 scholarships to give in total - Let’s get to work!

‘Bovine, That is a very valid point on Golson. He might beat Billingsley for the starting PF- we’ll see. But if he has to move off position (SF or C) for Billingsley, then I definitely would not list him in the backup spot unless we have a known improvement from others… Golson is a unique and talented player regardless of any areas of growth that can be worked on.

Wondering if Mo Njie re-enters the mix here. He definitely received some interest from big name programs. But none seem to have clicked as of yet. Wondering if he starts realizing his transfer opportunities are just to other mid majors, would he want to return to EMU? He still has EMU Basketvall listed in his Twitter header.

I would be good either way. He definitely showed some talents as a mere freshman. But conversely, I was looking forward to seeing what a quicker center like Randle and/or Jihad would look like.

I was wondering the same thing at this point. If you're Stan do you take him back?

Need to add Orlando Lovejoy at the guard spot. He could be an excellent PG.

Are you expecting him to be an immediate contributor? Or a project? (I don’t know high schoolers like you)

Acuff, Billingsley, and Lovejoy are all on the official EMU roster already…
https://emueagles.com/sports/mens-basketball/roster
Joey Zaher is not??? Assuming that means he is indeed a PWO.
So 3 schollies to go
(This recruiting class was dead in the water for the longest time. But I like how it has shaping up half through)

Here is how I see us playing next years team at this point. May change depending on whether the next 3 recruits are impacts vs projects…
PG 6-2 Noah / 6-3 Luka
SG 6-4 Acuff / 6-2 Lovejoy
SF 6-4 Rice / NEEDED / NEEDED
PF 6-8 Ballingsley / 6-10 Randle / 6-8 Ballard
C 6-6 Golson / 6-8 Jihad / NEEDED

Heath takes the long view recruiting. He should see limited playing time off the bench this upcoming year. May redshirt depending on who else we sign.

‘79, the EMU roster lists Acuff as a junior but athletically I believe he has three years of eligibility doesn’t he?

Here’s my new revised EMU’s line-up:
PG - Lovejoy / Luka Savicevic
SG - Farrakhan / Kevin-David Rice/
SF - Acuff/ Colin Golson
PF- Randle/ Jalin Billingsley / Yusuf Jihad / Derek Ballard Jr.
C - Transfer/ Javantae Randle/ Yusif Jihad
I placed Noah as a SG.
Lovejoy plays like a PG, Noah plays like a SG.

RE: Official EMU Basketball Lineup Thread (22-23)
I'm pumped for the way this roster is shaping up. It certainly seems like we're adding talent in the right places.
We're also bringing in some of the better players from SE Michigan for the first time in a LONG time. Currently 6 guys AND the majority of them are on scholarship. Previous regimes we'd have 3-4 guys but 2-3 of them were walk-ons that didn't last long in the program.
That alone should add a few dozen people to our home games!
