Bob Bowlsby stepping down as Big XII commish at the end of the year.
Interesting to see if Aresco gets a nod as his replacement. Personally, I think he would be an awesome fit but the whole AAC/ ESPN tampering accusation from Bowlsby may play a big role in Aresco getting consideration.

If Arsco goes to the Big 12, does the AAC go after Judy???

Aresco is somewhere near 70 years old, can’t imagine him getting the nod for that job.

Aresco hasn't been mentioned as a candidate. I did see that Alabama AD Greg Byrne is a candidate.

Good. Hopefully we (or any other in-state teams) get to play in Tuscaloosa with a nice AD

Like they said on TNR, if I were Byrne I’d stay at Alabama. You know Alabama will be around in five years, you don’t know that about the Big XII.

I think big 12 commissioner is likely to be a candidate currently in the Big 12. AD at Baylor perhaps?

Of course they would say that. Anyone thinks the Big XII will not be around in 5 or even 10 yrs is just being snarky.

The big 12 definitely will exist. If it loses a bunch of schools it will just backfill from aac and mwc.

exactly... not sure who is left in the BIG XII that would be a 'poach' candidate, other than Kansas, who I see jumping to the BIG10 for the basketball prowess... otherwise, who? WVU was turned down by the ACC and SEC before they ended up in the BIG XII, and with that, none of the other existing teams or the 'newbies' would be in play, unless the PAC decides to try to get into Texas again... I see the top half of the PAC 'merge' with the BIG 10 before the Texas thing at this point...

The big 12 also could potentially be the one doing the poaching, depending on what evolves with the big ten and sec.
All options are being war-gamed within the p5 including the idea that we could end up with a p2.

true... just pure logistics pretty much call for a 'mid-nation' conference, which the BIG XII is... could well have a 'P3' setup, but again, not sure how any of the current 'P5' conferences can be totally 'eradicated' (honestly same can be said for the 'G5' conferences), unless the NCAA is not involved...

Yup.
agreed that this is likely what will happen...
what I really want to see (which will never happen) is a system of promotion and relegation. different divisions? that's cool. but you only play within your division (no collecting Ws by playing lower division teams)...and if you finish in the top 5 (or whatever) you move up to the next division. if you finish in the bottom 5, you move down. if you wanna move back up, prove it on the field

This is what I have thought for the last decade plus because but the smaller schools don't want to be separated from the big schools for fear of becoming irrelevant. Welp, that's gonna happen regardless if things don't change.

There will never be relegation in collegiate sports. No way. College sports is designed to protect aristocrat-wanna-bes, not the filthy rich who get theirs and call the shots regardless. The bottom third of the p5 will never agree to something that potentially loses their built in advantages over those below them.

I think we are closer to it than ever before because it truly is trending toward a different model
