if davis returning im a strong believer in winning culture.. if you have a senior team that is accustomed to winning, they will find a way to win..

and as far as the aac level smu has been winning with davis.. if davis returns id be more worried about the year after davis.. but if you lose davis, id likely plummet smus projections

Sampson has told the local media outlets that there is a good chance that everyone with eligibility is back next season. Which includes Kyler Edwards and Marcus Sasser.

I’ll say it again. Preseason number 1.

SMU made a terrible terrible mistake by firing their HC, and bringing on by many accounts a sub par coach. Memphis is in major trouble with this Penny situation and I expect a disastrous off season for the program. So who’s left…?

Aggree it was a mistake for SMU to not to give Jank a 2 year renewal, and that they've shot themselves in the foot., but think it's too early too say how many bids the conference will earn. A lot will depend on the quality of the recruits and transfers that join the various teams.

Chances are that the AAC will be a two-bid again next season. It all depends on how well the teams play. There could be a two- or three-way battle for second place in the conference next season.

as of right now every team but houston doesnt look great (comparative to a ncaa tourney team).. but you could probably say something similar about many leagues right now, as this is when players go in the portal but most transfers havent committed

2 through 11 is completely wide open depending on what happens the next 2 months and who can recruit

Am I missing something with Memphis? I suspect they'll be very good again.

lots of players transfering

Alex Lomax
Tyler Harris
Jayden Hardaway
DeAndre Williams
Malcolm Dandridge
Johnathan Lawson
Chandler Lawson

this is all that is left on the current roster, the team above isnt a tourney team

and note than lomax, hardaway and Dandridge are rumored to be heavily considering the transfer portal

and deandre williams is 50/50 about going pro

vou're right that memphis ill end up good, peeny is a top recruiter, theyll get a bunch of guys from the portal

We will finish 15 this year. I know, I know, there's only 11 schools in the conference. However, where there's a will, there's a way. 03-phew

All you have to do is be ahead of UTSA and at this rate, either ECU or Charlotte or Rice. You got this!

SMU made a terrible terrible mistake by firing their HC, and bringing on by many accounts a sub par coach. Memphis is in major trouble with this Penny situation and I expect a disastrous off season for the program. So who’s left…Tulane? Hahahaha. Wichita St has been somewhat of a bust in the AAC so far and they don’t look to have anyone. Temple, off on their island is the new UConn; they don’t have any rivals and probably need an invite to the A-10 to succeed again. Cincinnati’s been down but there out of here soon anyway. UCF will be mediocre. USF and ECU will fight it out for 9th and 10th. Tulsa is last and may be worse than UTSA. A 1 biddie league.

What’s your definition of “bust”?

In the 5 years we’ve been here, we’ve had 3 NCAA’s ( they were an NCAA bubble in 2020 but as a homer, I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt) and 1 NIT Final Four.

Last year was the only bust year and that’s because we have an athletic director who doesn’t know how to right up contracts for unproven assistant coaches. So while our short term future is bleak, we’ve been relevant since we’ve gotten here minus this BS year.

So far, they appear to be losing 7 players.

Two players (Duren and Minott) have declared or are expected to declare for the NBA draft. Minott has stated that he won't be playing at Memphis next season, regardless.

In addition, these Memphis players have entered the portal:

Camden
Nolley
Onu
Timberlake
Quinones

24/7 has prospects, but no commits listed for them at this point.

im waiting to see how the portal plays out...

if temple or tulane picks up an top level center, they are my "sleeper" too.. both have very good guard cores ..a 4man that can shoot and has guard skills (cross/ Jourdain) but both are extremely soft in the post in both defense and rebounding

I don't agree at all that Jourdain is soft. He's a Covid freshman playing at like 6'8 205. He's just not strong enough yet. He'd be much different with another 25 lbs. of muscle.

Probably true.. he is a great shot blocker, just gets pushed around in the post ... some weight could definitely help that

With who is on the roster NOW, and obviously accepted assumptions (Duren is gone as an example)

1) Houston
2) Memphis - only duren & minott gone (would be the same with bates gone)
--gap
3) SMU - Assuming Davis and Bandoumel Return
4) Temple - Battle returns
5) Tulane
6) Cincy - assuming dejulius/davenport returns
7) Wichita - assuming Etienne returns
8) UCF - roster good enough for 3, but team is an underachiever
-- gap
9) ECU - assuming newton returns
10) USF - assuming caleb murphy returns

11) Tulsa

for giggles- how the C-USA 6 would fit (.5 means imbetween to list above)
2.5 or 3) UNT -assuming they keep coach
5.5 or 7) UAB -assuming walker returns
8.5 or 11) FAU
9.5 or 13) Charlotte - assuming Jahmir returns
9.5b or 14) Rice
17) UTSA

will obvious change - lots of assumption in the is rankings, and everyone has tons of ships to play with, and alot of unexpected players can transfer out

April 12th update:

1) Houston

2) Memphis - lost nolley & timberlake

3) Tulane
4) Temple - lost tons of rotation players
5) Cincy

6) UCF - lost green &fuller
7) SMU - lost davis

8) Wichita - lost most major players, but still have council/porter

9) Tulsa
10) USF - lost murphy
11) ECU - lost newton & suggs

for giggles- how the C-USA 6 would fit (.5 means inbetween to list above)

2.5 or 3) UAB - picked up 2 notable transfers
2.5b or 4) UNT
7.5 or 10) FAU
8.5 or 12) Rice
16) Charlotte - lost jahmir young
