I was just going by this page that listed a "Conference Tournament" with just UT vs. CMU.
Gotcha. that was probably a play-in game for the NCAA tournament.
It was. Teams had tied for regular season championship. Held at Crisler Arena. Dick Miller punctuated Rocket win with a huge dunk in the final seconds and I got in a fight with a CMU fan who kept warning me he was one of Sugar Ray Leonard’s sparring partner. He wasn’t and he got arrested. All in all an entertaining evening.
that's very cool!

Very clean, specific, and highlights major accomplishments in an organized manner.
I like it. UT can steal your ideas and save the cost and time of screwing it up themselves.

Not as good a story as yours, but I was trying to remember why I wasn't at the play-in game at Crisler. Then I remembered - I left on Feb. 28th for Hawaii on a 3 week vacation with with my best friend and his younger brother - to visit his sister who was living on Hickham Air Force Base with her husband. Toledo had to win their last game and CMY had to lose their last game to end up in a tie for the league title. That happened. Had to be about 2 weeks later, and we had the TV on while eating dinner, and all I could hear was the sports news guy saying something to the effect of "NCAA tourney Joplin, top of the key, winning shot, Iowa loses". Stayed up to watch the late news and saw the video of the sequence we heard - but did not see earlier. It was the year Bird faced Magic in the finals - and I was back home by then to see the championship game. I also remember watching Bird play in that tournament early on - in a side trip to Maui with the game coming on at 9am on Saturday morning.
I think I got most of that right. Long time ago.

I agree, but suspect issue here in money...would expense of replacing them all be better spent on something that actually improves team performance, players training or game day experiences for fans...just an observation

They're not hand drawn by Tibetan monks. How much you thinking new banners would cost?

I'll hand paint them on really sturdy paper for $100.

We tied CMU for the regular season championship (no divisions then), beat them in a one-game playoff in Ann Arbor, beat Iowa the next week in the first round of the NCAA, then lost to Notre Dame (with 7 future NBA players on their roster) in the Sweet 16. There hasn’t be as exciting a time in Rocket basketball since.
Boy you are right, the players we saw come thru in the 60's 70's and mid 80's, even visiting teams coming to the Field House. ...Nick's defense was so intense, Nick had good relationships with bigger programs so we played the bigger schools and won often, Toledo was a bball town then, probably a hockey town now...
Joplin had connections too and we had big games. Jop could coach defense, offense....not

Keep the 2012-2013 mens championship banner. They earned that mfkr and not one player or coach on that team deserved the punishment of not being allowed to participate in any postseason tournament. And also, add a 2019-2020 national co-champions banner for both Mens and Womens BB. Each team won their last game in tournament play and have as much of a right to stake their claim as anyone.

Nice. I'd like to see banners for our other two men's All-Americans.

RE: Consolidate the banners!
Has anyone seen BG post the "Super 16" stuff for winning 2 games? I've never heard of it called that. Which makes me think the banners could say round of 64/ round of 48(if we have some from that time), round of 32, round of 16 etc. To me "Sweet 16" is the terminology, but I'm not sure it will always be that way.

There have been three All-Americans in the history of UT men's and women's basketball. One is Steve Mix. The other two deserve a banner.

That's the term the WNIT uses. I believe the NCAA owns the trademark rights for "Sweet 16" but the WNIT is not run by the NCAA.
Oh, google search, indicates the NCAA licenses the term "Sweet 16" from the Kentucky HS Athletic Association, but same result.

We currently have banners that say WNIT Sweet 16 though, right? Could we get a lawsuit for that?

I counted over 50 banners, between men and women, last night. It would be even worse if they weren't doing some consolidation already. Toledo is a few more sub-par years away from having banners you can reach out and touch in the corner by section 104.
The athletic department said a few years ago they were going to consolidate banners, i.e. all NIT appearances on one or two banners. Don't know what happened.
The banners are a tribune to the players that played on the teams that the banners represent. If you don't like the banners don't come to the games. If your family or friends don't like them, then they must be jealous, that we have so many.

RE: Consolidate the banners!
It's the amt of large banners not what they say. So consolidation should make all parties happy. There's literally no room on the wbb side because of the Grogan room views.
I'm 99% sure in talking with those who make decisions, changes are coming regarding them. I don't know the company who does these, nor what they will look like. Nor do I even know how they will choose to consolidate them, but it will look different come November of 2023.

Correct. The NCAA owns the NIT, but not the WNIT which is operated by Triple Crown Sports in Fort Collins, Colorado.
