Denim DeShields, UAB’s new commitment at point guard, comes from a highly athletic family. Her older sister is Diamond DeShields, the third pick in the 2018 WNBA draft out of Tennessee who played a key part in the Chicago Sky’s championship run last year. The biggest difference between Denim and Diamond is size — Denim is a 5-foot-5 point guard while Diamond is a 6-1 shooting guard.
Their older brother is Delino DeSheilds Jr., who has played Major League Baseball the past six years. Their father Delino Sr. is a former pro baseball player who is currently the Cincinnati Reds’ first base coach. Their mother Tisha is a former track All-American at Tennessee.
Denim didn’t draw attention from the biggest college programs in the country, but she is exactly the type of player a mid-major like UAB can sign and strike gold with.
I’m excited that Denim is UAB-bound.

She seems exactly what is needed at the point. Team needs someone who can push the pace and penetrate.
