If gas prices drop for the election that will save part of football season.

Outside of probably driving the vehicle in my driveway with the best mpg a bit more, I would not change my lifestyle. Folks that live paycheck to paycheck are going to be squeezed. We just spend billions bailing out Americans due to Covid. I think we should stop oil usage from Russia and if it has a major economic impact send out some more checks to those that this hurts the most until prices stabilize... Id prefer that to be in conjunction with reversing our current energy policy in some type of bipartisan deal. Its pretty clear to most anyone with a modicum of common sense that we need to be energy independent. We can do that and still protect the environment. The two things are not mutually exclusive.

I don't see it forcing people to buy 40k electric vehicles either. If you cannot afford a 40k vehicle, you will not be able to afford the gas. Most of the poor will still be driving gas-powered cars. Just the way it is, Biden and company are only hurting the poor by not allowing more drilling, etc...Second, I have yet to see military vehicles and planes go electric...all still use petroleum.

I definitely believe an increase up to $5 - 6 will impact the cost of most things - food, clothing, basic home goods, services, and travel. So I could see many families foregoing their annual trip to Florida and having a "stay-cation" to reduce overall costs.

The "stay-cation" could be attending TIGER football games...and basketball games.

So attendance may not drop too much but could actually new (younger) fans.

We shall see.
