Aldrich - He may be priced out of our range being the it name coach.

Holmes, A. Shaver, Kimble - I get the nostalgia of hiring one of our own from the glory days. Mann has no ties to that period so I don't think it means much to him in the process. He will use his connections and hire whomever he feels has the vision and ability to move forward.

I'd think Austin would be much more likely the next coach at Longwood than he'd ever be here.

I agree with all of that. Personally, as everyone knows, I really enjoyed that period and the way Shaver, Holmes and their staff ran things and the players that came through during that time. So, I'd love to see a reunion with any of the prior staff. Mann can decide if that ship has sailed. I am confident that Mann won't make the significant hiring mistakes that were previously made which means he likely would not act without a short list that would be satisfactory to him. I also think Dane will be retained and as I hope he is successful.

The more interesting discussion is what type of program would work well here in 2022-23? Those of you with actual basketball experience would know better on that. If I could only have one phase covered, I'd rather see the Tribe running a better shooting, higher scoring team than one who plays good defense but cannot score. Obviously, playing reasonable defense is important, although UNCW in 2017 did not play much defense and they were probably the best team overall since VCU left.

UVA has shown good defense can lead to a National title and VCU showed that their “havoc” defense could take them from the first four to final four.

Good defense can be your foundation if you execute a effective offense. Out offense was neither properly executed or consistently effective.

I'm assuming we're keeping Dane for another year. I'd love to see DoBO Cameron Ayers get a bump up to assistant coach. Any chance that'll happen?

Not unless we loose an assistant coach!!

The last post in this thread that was actually about the Northeastern game was 21 posts ago (and that was actually about the attendance at the NE game). Should these later posts be broken off into a thread about coaching?

Agreed. Not sure we have the players or the coaching to run either of those systems. I haven't followed VCU since they left the CAA. As for UVA, they were very successful based on the excellent defense when they had guys that could score. They have had some other years(like perhaps this one) where they simply do not have enough scorers to win consistently. Bennett is an excellent coach and gets a lot out of their talent. The difference between the year where Perrentes was their top scorer and the Guy, Hunter, Jerome, and Diakete year was significant. My point is IF we can only have one(and it appears that is the case so far), I'd rather have players that can score. Rocco did plenty of strong analysis about the need to defend with stats to back it up. I have no qualms with it.
