I'm pretty sure he can be drafted by the NFL. He meets the criteria. Just because another league drafts him, it doesn't mean he has to sign with that team in that league.
During the NFL/AFL war, players were drafted by teams in both leagues and who ever gave the player the most money usually signed the player. The spurned team did hold the rights for that player if he decides to jump leagues.
That sounds right. You basically just have the rights to sign a player in so much as no one else in the league can sign them. That doesn’t mean the player has to sign with who drafted them. Teams draft guys who sign MLB contracts pretty often in hopes they chose football over baseball.
They may have to buy out their usfl contract if it conflicts with seasons. Just guessing.
Quote from the USFL on the draft process.
"Players need to declare their interest in playing and sign a contract with the league prior to the draft in order to be eligible."
So guys had to be under contract to even be eligible for the draft. I would assume that the USFL, while wanting it's players to go on to NFL success in order to encourage more players to join the league, would not let their best players walk out mid-season. Not that I envision this even being a problem, as guys who have even a chance of being drafted would NEVER go play in games and risk injury just 2 weeks before the draft. The NFL draft eligible guys that signed with the USFL have very likely already gotten the feedback that they will not be selected, and are using this as an opportunity to boost their stock and be in better playing form for NFL training camps as UDFA's.
Sounds like you’re locked into the USFL for the full season:
“Once a player is signed and plays with the USFL, they are locked in for the full season through the USFL championship game. After the season ends in the summer, they can sign with a team in the NFL only, provided they notify the USFL and provide a copy of the contract.”
That was my assumption based on what I read, but couldn't find it actually stated anywhere.

This league isnt even gonna see game one. They’re being sued by the original USFL owners, including Larry Cszonk, because they never secured rights to the names and logos. Can no one do a freaking spring league right???

This is why when a month or so ago I saw a prop bet on whether or not they would make it through a full season, I took the no. Figured either way I will win, either a full spring of getting to watch at least some kind of football, or some $$ lol

Nothing like posting the Schedule two weeks before the season starts.
Could you imagine the uproar if the MAC did that?

In A normal football league, yes you are correct but this league is abnormal compared to conventional leagues.
Fox owns the league and all the teams. All games will be played at one stadium in Birmingham Al. All teams practice and are housed in Birmingham for the season.
Season ticket revenue is immaterial to Fox, they are concentrating for TV ratings and what they can sell commercial time for.
Since there is no travel, no season tickets and one stadium lease, the timing of the schedule unveiling is no big deal.
