RE: WSU Shockers 2/17 @ 7PM
Hensley is not well-suited for this level of competition. He contributes very little in any phase of the game. Loss of Newman for any extended time will be tough to overcome. Tonight was Newman’s best game possibly of the year.

When newman plays well the offense mostly plays well. They've had that one great stretch and newman was key. He's mostly been bad for the last 5 games. He was good again tonight and the team was better.

Sounds like Newman will be out for a week or two. Mason's improved play should help cover some of the minutes, will need Hensley to step up and take the rest of them.
I saw MM make some nice D plays. Unusual in the past

I misses the game (will miss this weekend's also). May have to watch it after I catch up on the Olympics I am missing next week. Sounds like an intriguing, if often infuriating, game.

The AAC is an odd lot.
SMU and Wichita couldn't beat UC if their life depended on it.
SMU then beats Houston, who UC can't get within 30 points of.
The Houston will lose to somebody like ECU or Temple.
Memphis cannot even be close to being figured out.

It's really amazing, especially considering they have a small arena for what will soon be a P5 program. If there was truly reluctance on the part of the Big 12 to have Houston in the club, I've often thought it was more about their low fan participation rate.
In recent years, Houston football has been ranked, beat an SEC team in its bowl this season, and won an NY6 bowl. In basketball, a Final Four less than a year ago. Big school, huge city and empty seats everywhere.
On a brighter note, last night's UC game was mostly enjoyable to watch and I agree that Newman really made a difference. Large leads nearly slipped away both halves but it turned out to be a much needed win with the AAC Tourney just weeks away. Seventeen wins, season to date. It's not what we're used to but UC basketball would really be limping toward the Big 12 with a record like USF has.

On Bartovik, Hensley’s points over replacement is a robust -0.1. Not sure I’ve seen one for a UC player in the negatives before.
He’s a kid Wes clearly likes but he’s in the deep end here.

Houston is going to be underseeded to high heaven because their resume on the NET side of things is very skewed away from the advanced stats. I could easily see them being a 5 seed when it's all said and done, maybe even a 6 if they drop another one somewhere.
