COACH BAREFOOT OUT
Quite sad that Karen Barefoot's lack of X and O pedigree did her in at UNCW as well. She should have learned her lesson and hired an assistant to help her out in that arena. Maybe she needs to go back to being an assistant at a good program.

Yes, sad this happened. Maybe she can become a motivational speaker because she could talk a good game and get folks pumped up. As a person, there’s none better; as a coach, not so much.

I think she tried. She has Tina Martin (the former Delaware head coach) on the bench.

She's a fun person to be around. I like Karen. Wish she was a good head coach, but she'll land on her feet somewhere as an assistant.

She was one of Wendy's assistance on the ODU Sweet 16. I thought she would do well, but not everyone has what it takes to be a HC. Wish her well.

I truly enjoyed coaches enthusiasm. Her heart was always in the right place. She loves the girls and worked as hard as any coach. She will be ok. I hope to see her soon as an assistant at a top tier program.

The oddest thing about it was that she saw a successful program, then decided to build a program that looked nothing like what she saw modeled.
Wendy's teams were always one of the best rebounding teams in the nation. They were an inside-out offensive mindset.
Karen implemented a very different scheme (based off the men's game) that did not work well at all. She had very talented players too. It's a shame.

It also helps when you're recruiting a different rank of players. Outside of her last 3 seasons, Wendy was able to consistently recruit at a P5 level, something that ODU can never do again. Regardless of anyone's beliefs regarding the final years of both Wendy and Beth Anders, it was clear that the landscape of women's athletics was catching up with the men's side regarding P5 recruiting (along with the services that those respective schools can provide their athletes). The age of dominance from schools like the ODUs & LA Techs of the world was coming to a close.
Regarding Barefoot, it was well-established that she wasn't as sharp on X's & O's as Wendy, and she had to implement a style that she could, at least, try and be successful. I feel that Barefoot was (is) a great assistant coach at the D1 level, but I always thought she was over her head for long-term success as a head coach.

RE: COACH BAREFOOT OUT
Of course anyone that follows Wensy Larry is already at a disadvantage. I guarantee that the coach is only good as their players. Yes, her Wilmington team struggled and so did ODU. So did Wendy towards the end and I know she recruited her players, but when Wendy and Marianne and Pam all coached at ODU, recruiting was easier. This may rock the apple cart, but it would have happened to ODU years ago if Wendy did not have Allison Greene. She and ODU were one of the first to recruit overseas and Ticha admitted that she probably would have not gone to ODU if she was recruited by bigger universities and when Allison left, so did the pipeline, so before you go banging on Coach Barefoot, remember comparing her to Wendy is like apples and oranges and as far as coaching, she WOULD NOT get a job ever if she did not know X's and O's. Athletic directors are not stupid. She has been a coach in 3 different places and you are telling me all 3 didn't do their homework and correct me if I'm wrong didn't she get the ODU job over Nancy Lieberman.
