I can't begin to count the number of dogs I've had since I was a kid. I've had 5 over the last 16 years, a black Lab named Black Jack that was my best friend and constant companion for 12 years, 2 minpins named Ren and Stimpy, Ren passed away from heat stroke one day when he was about 5 on a 105 degree day. Stimpy lived to be 15 and died about two years ago. I now have 2 rescues, a gorgeous German Shepherd named Koko or Koko Puff and a big old beautiful Chocolate Lab named Bo, Bobo, Bocephus, Bubba or Bubbahead, whatever comes out at any given time. He is the quintessential English Lab with a big old block head who weighs in at almost 100 pounds of solid muscle.
The GS is the sweetest GS I've ever owned. The day I went to get her she was in a fenced in front yard that was a mudpit with 6 mean ass Rottweilers. They had been abusing the hell out of her. She has scars up and down her legs. I parked and when dude brought her outside of the fence she ran up to me, flipped over on her back and was overjoyed to have her belly rubbed. I asked her if she wanted to come home with me and she sat up. I said "well, get in the truck" and damn if she didn't run up to my truck. My back seat has never been the same. She loves to ride and would literally stay in the truck all day if she could.
I got her home and gave her a bath, it took an hour to get rid of all the mud. The next day I took her to the vet and she was heartworm positive, So right away this free dog cost me 1600 bucks. She then tore up my little Hitleresque minpin because minpins are dickheads and all think they are full size Dobermans. That cost me another 600 bucks. Then I had her spayed, another 300 bucks.
Thank God the Lab was fine. All he cost was the normal regiment of shots. He had never been to a vet and was terrified. He's probably about 6-7 years old. Prior to his arrival Koko was a serious, somber, but very sweet dog. She had no clue how to play. Within 3 days of bringing Bo home he had charmed her into playing. The first time I saw them rolling around in the back yard I almost cried. Bo hates to ride. But he loves to lay down on the bed with me until I fall asleep, he'll then get down on his bed.
I used to breed GSD's and had a few direct from champion lines, none of them were anything like Koko. She's the best one I've ever had. The others were all either Schutzhund trained or trained to hand signals for AKC competition, they were working dogs. Koko knows how to sit and heel off lead, sometimes, lol.
Sorry for all that but you touched me in my feels with this one. I love dogs more than I love people generally speaking.

Loved the stories. I've had several Brittany Spaniels when I was young, then I had several Black Labs whom I loved to death. Great temperament, smart and fun but if you're out and there is water anywhere, they will be in it. They are also really great and patient with children.
My friend has had numerous minpins. Loved your spot on description of them. She also has had several Bichons, and now has a minpin, a Chihuahua and a sort of mutt that looks like and was sold as a Chihuahua. His DNA test showed a little daschund but he's the smartest dog of the bunch. He fancies himself the head of security in the house, enforcing house rules. She also has 6 African Gray parrots (several bonded pairs). He tattles on them when they go somewhere in the house where they are not supposed to be or when things get heated between them. He'll bark until mom comes to see what is up.
Dogs make our lives much more interesting and fun.

Yes they do and you never have to wonder about what their agenda is. Food, water, a dry place to sleep and a humans touch is all most of them really want.
I do wish science could alter their DNA to stop the shedding! If you don't like dog hair then you may wish to cancel any visit you have planned.
Great story, thanks for sharing!
Maybe even one we can all agree on...except for those awful cat people, who won't accept that their "furry friends" are just using them for food & shelter and would gleefully stalk and kill their owners if they were large enough to do so.
