RE: 2022 matchup Rumors
When CUSAtv was where a lot of basketball games were, some of the games were unwatchable. I remember a few years trying to watch a Marshall/UTEP game. While Marshall had the ball they would either show a replay with UTEP with the ball or put up a big basketball with the word DEFENSE on it. Was horrible.

Typically the SBC has the conference matchups decided by early January, but then the schedule goes to ESPN. ESPN pre-selects its 2 Wednesday games it wants and a select number of guaranteed Thursday games. Those dates are usually from Late September to the first week in November. The SBC then ensures the matchups are placed on the dates ESPN wants

From there, the rest of the schedule is finalized and announced. ESPN will come back later in the summer and early fall to select more TV games based on what it thinks will be good matchups but the most they can do then is ask if a school wants to play on a Friday or Thursday instead of Saturday. New contract guarantees certain Saturday TV windows.

Early unconfirmed rumors:

1. Georgia Southern will play at Southern Miss next year
2. ODU will play at JMU next year, potentially Saturday after Thanksgiving.
3. SBC will do everything it can to avoid messing up the home site rotation for major rivalry games.
4. App will play at Marshall. Week may change assuming its picked for TV.

All of these fit in with the schedule this USM writer came up with that doesn't force anyone to play on the road at the same team 2 years in a row.

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...edit#gid=0

Will JMU be looked at as an FBS team next year? The spreadsheet has us going to their house in 2022.

That is because they were tied into the UTEP Jumbotron feed. Been there before as a fan…it’s awful.

Rumor is that ODU is coming to GS next year and for JMU and Marshall we will host 1 and go to the other

RE: 2022 matchup Rumors
I'd like to see the SBC release opponents without a schedule early this year. We don't need to know dates yet, but it might be cool to let the fans get a look at who they'll be playing so they can start thinking about possible road trips.

I remember watching some UCF football games during the 00s this way on C-USA All Access or something like that. The jumbotron feed. It's very sad to hear that in 2022 this is still a thing anywhere, 13-15 yrs after having to endure that during the C-USA 2.0 yrs.

OOO I knew the reason. Marshall figured out how to stream games while still in the SoCon when the internet was still somewhat in it's infancy and connection and buffering were spotty at best. They now have a dedicated sound room where they produce all their content.

In the late 90s and early 2000s "ESPN GamePlan" was revolutionary and a precursor to ESPN+/watchESPN.The thing is you had to pay a pretty penny for your game to be there. Started out at like 7K per game and at the end of GamePlan I think it was up to 12.5K per game. I remember a few Marshall Alumni groups in the Carolina's and Georgia would pool monies together and put the 2-3 games not on ESPN per year on ESPN GamePlan.

I've mentioned this, but I don't think there's a way to make it where no one has a repeat trip. I think it's possible to set it up where the major rivalries don't have to deal with it, but that's all.

It might be BS for a couple of schools the 1st year or so but I think everything should work itself out in the end. When everything works itself out I hope Marshall has Appy and GA Southern on rotating years. Unlike in CUSA where WKU and MTSU was in the same rotation either home or away the same year.

So what are the expectations of what’s going to happen with Marshall & Apps nonconference schedule if they play each other as a conference game? Neither team will have 12 games anymore and on this short of notice, seems almost possible to find another nonconference game.

I would think JMU will be added for their FBS required schedule. Just guessing.

If Sam Houston St. and Jacksonville St. are also going to be considered FBS in 2022, they'd presumably be in the market for games.

There also might be a decent chunk of teams with openings if Liberty and BYU are joining their conferences in 2022, which I'd imagine they are.

I just hope ODU doesn't get Appy, JMU, and Marshall away all in the same year. 3 Hillbilly Homecoming Games is too much in one season.
