Have you been to UGA? It's a great school. They don't just hand out A's.

That is in reference to Tony Cole and maybe some athletes, not the whole student body.

I could care less about what you say about GA Tech athletics. Attack them all you want if it makes you feel better about your cheating basketball program.

Don't bring that Georgia Tech hypocrisy here.
An obvious exception to the rule.

Sweeping generalizations don't apply to anyone, though you seem to be trying to make them fit.

Sweeping Generalization: Georgia doesn't cheat
Truth: Georgia occasionally cheats, as is unspoken protocol in the SEC

Sweeping Generalization: All athletes at GT are there for an education.
Truth: Some are, some aren't -- but most are.

Great school?

Betcha I could lower my GPA 1.25 points, and my SAT 300 points and still get in easy.

Swagger we all know you are a special case, with your 1650 SAT and a 5.1 GPA on a 4.0 scale.

Come on guys...you can't truly compare graduation rates between engineering schools & liberal arts schools. If you look at the majority of engineering schools, their graduation rates are lower than at schools that have a wide variety of non-engineering majors for more of the athletes to select as majors. As a graduate of a liberal arts school, I will freely admit that I couldn't have done nearly as well at Tech or NC State or VA Tech as I did at Wake Forest.

Now my sister is a UGA grad and my brother a Tech grad, so they have had many a discussion on this subject. She stated that at one point UGA had the "drive-up diploma" policy, but with the availability of the HOPE scholarship, admission standards have definitely increased and so have the quality of students at UGA...she actually had to STOP at the registrar's office for them to toss the diploma in her car 03-wink

One thing that you can't deny is that Georgia has been notorious over the years for having both football & basketball recruits fail to meet basic standards for admission to UGA. Tech has not had this problem, so you can't really say that Tech is admitting poorer students. At least their recruits QUALIFY...

Okay, I'm done stirring the pot for now...

PS: Where's that wonderful 2-cents icon? That would have been perfect for this post... :frown:

Truth be known that UGA is an easier school to graduate from. I mean "History of Rock in Roll" and "Basic Statistics"?

Tech has no classes that can touch those.

Try Calculus 1-6 and you will see why UGA is an easier school. But like Lucy said, it is a liberal arts school. I have been to both a technical and liberal arts school. They both have their advantages and disadvantages.

I don't know why any athlete would want to go to Tech over a liberal arts school. Tech has the 4 to 1 guy to girl ratio, harder classes overall, and no party central like Athens. Maybe they want the education. Luckily Tech gets some good athletes despite all these disadvantages. And thats why Tech will never be a sports dynasty.
