It has been my experience that our fan base does not travel well to bowl games or to most away games. I don’t believe the basketball game was that big of a factor.
No we don't travel well.
The Bahamas Bowl was too far for most fans. So a core group made it by boat.
Then when it was Boca and that was still to far, and once again the core group made it. We had a great number to represent and even made it on the field.
The New Orleans bowl...yup "Why is it so far away?" Jesus! you would think some folks don't plan ahead. We had a good crowd though. We didn't pack out our side but we had just as many fans as App St.
So this time it was Shreveport and you had.
1. Fans complaining that it was on the same day as the basketball game and insinuated that the basketball game was more important. started to sound like the choose a side talk again.
2. Some fans already bought tickets to the basketball game and couldn't go. So that left the more football oriented fans. Which is cool, we have enough fans to go around. the ones that made it to Shreveport represented well and the team appreciated it.

Was told BYU sold over 7,000 UAB in the 500 range FWIW
I got my tickets from a veterans ticket site so that count wasn't an accurate picture of the number of people who bought tickets or was there. it was enough that we were heard when our guys made good plays.
Weather was a factor but not enough to keep most of us away. But out of a 52K seated stadium 26,276 people were reported. We did pretty good. The Indy was about the second or third highest bowl attendance so far, but I'm sure that'll change as the bowls progress.
