RE: Will Urban Meyer return to college football?
The good news is that Auburn will have a new coach. -Or Louisville. -Or Texas.
Meyer can coach and win. He needs resources and a loose university.

Your opinion. I think this shows more of his true colors.

This.
He was dismissed hours after this story came out and in doing so it indicates that he was fired for cause due to physically assaulting a staff member. He's done coaching unless an AD ignores a vetting process but then the prospects and their parents will have all the information the AD and President/Chancellor would have ignored.
EDIT: Also, will he try to pull the "mental health" card again? Wouldn't it be the third time he proclaimed such? Why would anyone get involved with him?
Beat me to it.

This seems a possibility. He did coach in the SEC and is a great recruiter with championships. Urban Meyer would have to win quickly, though, like at UF.

I've noted before on the board: I find most high-profile college and pro football and basketball coaches rather unevolved, uninteresting and unappealing — including the bulk of the coaches with the programs for which I cheer.
Of course, all those men might think the same thing about me.

RE: Will Urban Meyer return to college football?
I can't see a P5 hiring Meyer right now, he's a bit too toxic right now. If he sits out for a couple years I think there will be more interest as memory of this Jacksonville debacle fades.
A G5 might hire him right away. If a coaching job at Utah State (he coached at Utah) or New Mexico or Charlotte or similar open up I can see him being desired. The perfect spot would be somewhere like Colorado State (if they hadn't just hired a coach) that wants to be a bigger player but their performance tanked when it matter most. They see how BYU, Cincinnati, Houston and UCF rode recent strong runs into P5. Arguably the same for UTSA and FAU moving up to the American. But the timing is bad for even that, maybe next year.
No, the most likely thing Meyer will do is chill for year, then a broadcast gig.
Frankly I wouldn't touch him. The way he exited Jacksonville, throwing assistants under the bus, destroyed a lot of his credibility in the coaching world. Who the heck wants to work for him now? The stories of mismanagement at Ohio State, the revealing of his toxic leadership, makes it hard to see him be successful again. He is done. He needs to take not one or two years, but quite a bit more, and some deep reflection. But that kind of person who doesn't care about his subordinates is not going to change. Were he smart he'd walk away and let the winning years at Utah, Florida and Ohio State be his legacy. The truth is out, the gig is up. But he is only 57, and I think he'll show up somewhere in G5 and try to make a go of it in a few years.

He's getting older. Jags was supposed to be the four year gig before possibly one final stint in college. Now that timeline gets accelerated. You sign a 4-5 year deal with a P5 school with an extension with sustained success. Probably won't be Texas, but it could be given what A&M is doing down there. Otherwise, drop down to the Big 12 or a USF type of program (just to redeem himself). If he can win at a smaller program immediately without the media eyeballing his every move, he can get one last pay day with a P5 in his 60s before calling it quits.

RE: Will Urban Meyer return to college football?
Urban's demonstrated behavior in coping with stress yields negative consequences.
Any desperate, major football program hiring him, at least in the immediate future, would be taking a huge risk.
Urban has the drive for success, and even perfection as he perceives it. However, he handles frustration poorly, and the arrogance, and the judgments made under the spotlight, did him in.

I absolutely agree on this: he needs to walk away and let the winning at Utah, Florida, and Ohio State be his legacy. I'd go so far as to say that his record at Bowling Green and Utah speak more to his coaching ability than his national championships at Florida and Ohio State. UF and tOSU are equipped to win national championships, which he did. He has more than enough money in the bank. He can retire and let time heal his reputation.
He'll be desperate to coach, and a G5 or hard-luck P5 will be desperate enough to take him. With the stories from Ohio State, he's probably too toxic for a return to the nearby MAC. But someone will take a flyer on him. The question is: can he handle the losing that comes from being at a lower-level school? He's not going to like being on the losing end of a money game at a P5 school.

The Jaguars are planning on not paying the rest of Urban Meyer's contract. Hopefully the truth comes out about the kicking incident comes out.

If Lambo is truthful then Meyer should never coach again.
