* biggest team in D1 and the offense starts 20 feet from the basket with NO ONE in the paint. Not one player.

* you play your best guys 30 minutes a game.

* Duren follows his man 25 feet from the basket on defense ALL GAME, EVERY GAME. That just can’t happen. The other team gets by their man and gets a layup and you’ve got no defensive presence in the paint area and limited rebounding.

* Gotta post Bates. A lot.

* There is so much more.

This is on Penny. Period.

It is mind boggling how Penny makes the decisions he does. Love the guy, but he doesn’t really understand how to coach D1 basketball at all. This experiment can’t end soon enough.

What the "played our best ball without Lomax" folks leave out is that Lomax played during 8 of those 17 games.

The popular narrative is that Lomax getting hurt ignited the team, but the team was well ignited by the time he got hurt. They just sustained it in his injury.

What happened down the stretch is not a reflection of Lomax. However it could very well be a result from Penny shortening his rotation.

Lomax was NEVER the problem.

Nor was he ever the answer.

This year he was a cog in the machine.

Other players were supposed to be transcendent. Duren is as advertised. Bates hasn't been. Not even close. I'm not gonna kill him but he has a lot of work to do.

So when this team isn't where it should be, it's not a "Lomax" thing.

It's the dude who's supposed to be averaging 16 and 6 is actually going for 8 and 1 while shooting 33%.

My god, though, if he can right the ship the sky's the limit.
