NCAA Bans Fake Slide
This needed to be done. The fake slide in the ACC Championship game arguably changed that game. If quarterbacks want to be able to slide to avoid a hit, they shouldn't be allowed to take advantage by faking it. The rules in the game of football these days already favor the offense enough as it is. Sorry, can't get the Tweet to show.

I'm shocked the NCAA actually did something good for once.

I can't wait until the ref thinks he sees a fake slide but its not. Ball is ruled down and changed the course of that game.

I was just thinking the same thing. I think the NCAA should change the rule to be able to hit the QB even if he is trying to slide. He is a football player after all and should be able to take hits if he decides to run.

Hah, hadn't thought of that. Stuff like this makes you wonder what the game of football will look like another 50 years from now.

It was a really cool play and this will be forever known as the Pickett Rule. However, I completely agree with the NCAA and I’m glad this has been clarified. A QB could get seriously hurt if the defense doesn’t believe that he’s actually sliding.

But this was pretty damn smooth on Pickett's part.

Flag. It will definitely be flag football by then and a penalty if you accidentally knock someone to the ground. Football is moving in the same direction of society. Soft.

Maybe require a signal like the fair catch signal?

RE: NCAA Bans Fake Slide
Pretty subtle fake. Would be really hard to make that call as a ref without the benefit of replay. But if the defense ends pursuit for even a split sec over a QB move they'll have to call it if he continues to run.

I agree with the previous poster that he should just be hit, with all current targeting rules, etc in effect. If he slides, it's feet first with very low percentage of injury, and if it's faked he's gonna get tatered, which he earned. If he's hit after his butt's on the ground and he's down, it's a late hit anyway, so it' s covered.

A pillow fight. I predict that somewhere down the road they will limit running as it can be hard on the joints and it shakes all of your organs.
