Last game: VCU traded runs for 27 mins., opening 16-3 followed by 3-12 JSU and settling for a 34-30 lead @HT. JSU tied the game @38, but could not maintain their composure against the relentless VCU pressure (31 POT off 13 steals and 23 forced TOs) and VCU prevailed 66-52. Ugly game alert. Lacking a PG until JSU, VCU has struggled offensively all year, especially from 3. However, they can press and overplay passing lanes to great effect. They do not block out well and have been hurt by ORB/ second chance pts (-4.1/g, -7.3/g in losses). Note that in their 5 wins, VCU +5.2 POT/g but -3.8 POT/g in losses.

VCU also hurt by lack of depth. Baldwin just returning from torn Achilles tendon, Hasson Ward left early vs Campbell and DNP vs JSU, Jamir Watkins (ACL) and Jarren McAlister (MCL) out for year.

Seems we have some very superstitious posters in the Den.

I just read an article that Smith will be out Saturday w/mono. But will be cleared next week. We are going to need to play fierce defense - and Kalu and Trice need to be dominant. GMU is the only game we have played great defense.

If ODU runs their vanilla, leisurely-paced offense they will be lucky to score even 50. VCU opponents avg 10.3 assists/g, 50.2% of made FGs. ODU must be ready to sprint aggressively upcourt and take the ball strong to the basket...and look to follow up on misses. VCU will get their hands on passes, will double down on Kalu and will try to make ODU shoot late 3s.

Agreed - bc we are going to run the same vanilla bs. Our shots off of screens need to fall to win this game. The battle in the paint will be fierce but won’t decide the game b/c it will be a wash or Kalu will get in foul trouble. They are going to pack the paint and make us hit shots. I know we’re ready. I’m calling it now that CJ, Jaylin, Mekhi, and Stines are going to shine. CJ in particular.

Freaking 9-2 against us these last number of years. It’s getting old losing to them so much, especially when I see the videos of our past battles with them when we had outstanding teams.

Today will show which direction this season is heading for ODU. Still time to change to a more positive direction, even though this basketball season has been a major disappointment so far.
